Re: Real World Diesel mileage

I used to get sub 8L per 100 figures regularly, that was until I replaced the tires with a non factory standard size, I went from 265 50 20 to 285 50 20, a 3% decrease in speedo readout i.e @ 100 0n the readout and I am actually doing approx 103, where is this going, the dealer told me the Jeep (all cars) have an approx 3% speedo error (over) I checked this against my GPS, my speed now is 100% correct. (speedo accuracy by the way is not why I changed tires)

Long story short all figures that are calculated on standard tires need to have a 3% addition to make them (real world) accurate, sorry its not as good as it looks, good sales technique though.

Re: Real World Diesel mileage

I got mine down to 5.8l/100 over a 120km drive - but that was driving like a grandma

I usually get around 8.5 but i find i use the right foot a bit to much.

if i am being good i can always get a sub 7 L/100. the only down side is my mountainous driveway which sometimes requires low range. Always adds 1 l/100 to my milage (even though its only 2 km long (4km there an back)

Re: Real World Diesel mileage

Hi All,
Stand-out feature is the fuel consumption of the VM diesel, with the 8 speed playing no small part.
Our 2014 JGC Diesel is at: 1600kms (1000 mls)
Over the last 647km (400mls) of country driving (inc hilly + sport mode + some 4WDing)our consumption is:
Measured: 7.70L/100km (Gauge 7.8L/100km) equivalent to: 36.4mpg = 30.2USmpg giving a 1220km (753 miles) range

Interestingly on a level stretch, passing through towns etc, consumption was:
5.2 L/100km =53.9mpg = 44.9USmpg over 114km (70miles) 1hr 24min = 81kmh (50mph) avge.. ahh a 1790km (1100mile) range

Observation is, if you don’t accelerate that 2.2tonne vehicle much, nor lift it up too many hills, the full consumption at ~ 1500rpm in 8th is in the ~ 5 L/100km ~ 50mpg ~ 40+USmpg
range. Fantastic.

Now, not sure how many of you are across last year’s hypermiling effort in a Jeep GC 2014 by Wayne Gerdes (a leading hypermiler), who went from Chicago to Austin on one tank.. he did it at 44USmpg with the details in the following threads….
Guess thats the benchmark!

Re: Real World Diesel mileage

Took an 800-mile road trip last weekend to Spokane to watch NDSU basketball and our mileage was 29.5 MPG. Most of that was at 65-75 MPH which is better than the EPA estimate for 4WD. The EVIC showed about 31 MPG on relatively flat roads at 65 MPH.

Re: Real World Diesel mileage

Okay, took the family on a trip to Dollywood 2 weeks ago (first real trip in the GC). It was about 400 miles one way and all interstate. Like a DA, I didn't reset or record the mileage before we left. I guess I was a little excited. Coming home we got 30.6 mpg even with 1-1/2 hours of single digit driving. I am pretty impressed.ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1402877488.735366.jpg

Re: Real World Diesel mileage

Our 2013 diesel Laredo gets measured average of low-mid 8's L/100Km. We calculate each tankful, so it is mixed driving, and we live in foothills. Best ever was 7.2L/100km ... again mixed driving. Worst was 11L/100Km after towing 7X5 box trailer. Don't rely too much on the computer figures!!

Re: Real World Diesel mileage

Figures from our last trip, towing a 1500 kg campertrailer and with roof rack holding second spare tyre and four MaxTrax, in l/100 km:

Melbourne to Broken Hill - mainly bitumen, strong head wind 14.2
Broken Hill to Tibooburra - half bitumen, half dirt 11.2
Tibooburra to Birdsville via Innamincka and Coongie Lakes, all rough, sandy dirt, mainly headwind 15.1
Birdsville to Mount Isa, dirt and single lane bitumen so much slowing down/speeding up 12.9
Mount Isa to Cloncurry via Lawn Hill, half rough dirt, half bitumen 13.3
Cloncurry to Townsville via Winton, part dirt, part bitumen 13
Townsville to Mackay, all bitumen with a howling headwind 11.6
Mackay to Hervey Bay, all bitumen with a headwind 13.6
Hervey Bay to Goondiwindi, all bitumen, crossing the Great Divide twice 13.2
Goondiwindi to Melbourne, all bitumen 13.4

Around the city it is highly variable depending upon traffic and luck with traffic lights, but varies between 10 and 13. Highway cruising, light load and no roof rack, 8.5 to 9.

Cheers

How many km's have you done?? I'm reporting about 950km range and getting 9.3/9.4L/100km on the open road. Tend to sit on the 120kph mark, bit impatient so am inclined to "get around others" quickly, but am running a bullbar, underbody armour and most importantly BFG AT TA's (so greater rolling resistance). I've only got 4,000km's on the clock.
