Should I get the Engine Block Heater ??

I currently live in the south so the incitianl answer is NO. But there is a change I might move up north with my job in the coming years and plan to keep the CRD for a long time. Do you know if you can add it aftermarket ?

Also can you remove the Cord when you are not using it ?

Thanks agian for all your help

Re: Should I get the Engine Block Heater ??

Ordered mine with it as it can get pretty cold in the NC mts. I don't think the cord is removable - you just bundle it back up to the injector harness like the OM says.

^^^ Couldn't agree more. It's cheap, and it can be a major PITA to add aftermarket.

Re: Should I get the Engine Block Heater ??

^^^^^ You should ALWAYS get the block heater with a diesel, no matter if you will use it or not. Better have then add later.

Re: Should I get the Engine Block Heater ??

My diesel experience is with full size trucks and on those it helps it warm up a lot faster when parked outside, in an unheated garage, etc. Those are much larger engines and you can often be 20 minutes down the road in winter before before getting much heat out of the heater. Not sure how this plays out on these smaller engines but I'm guessing the warm up would still be at least somewhat quicker on cold mornings. Something you and your passengers will likely appreciate.

Re: Should I get the Engine Block Heater ??

Hi
Can anyone tell me the location of the block heater on the wk2 diesel engine. I have the same engine in my export 2011 gc wk2 but not sure if a heater is fitted or not. So far no snow in London area here in UK.
Thanks

Re: Should I get the Engine Block Heater ??

For 2011-2013 WK's with 5spd transmission, there is no available 'block heater' per se. The provision to mount the heating element into the block is not present.

For 2014MY the block has the provision for mounting the heating element, but the only one available is a 110v unit for North American markets. For all not-US/Canada applications, there is a plug installed where the element goes on the US/Can models.

In Europe you might consider the Webasto unit which is generally awesome for cabin warmth in cold climates.

Smile Re: Should I get the Engine Block Heater ??

Thanks. I will look at other heater options like wolverine or Webasto.
