Re: That Diesel is Expensive

I am really surprised with why some people want to ramp up or add more performance features to a vehicle that already performs above and beyond already????

cause on a diesel it is cheaper than fuel, and a simple tune can get yoy tonz more power while not.sacraficing fuel economy.

Agree. I guess the answer is "because I can".

I would understand if it was a 3 ltr Toyota or Nissan engine but this thing is awesome and 90% why I bought this vehicle

I know where you are coming from I just find it amazing some of the performance modifications people want to add to something that is already perfect. Iam glad it has got a good cruise control because I would proberly have no points left by now.

Re: That Diesel is Expensive

......Marvelous.....driving up the highway dropping my car in for a service today and noticed about 20 of our boys in blue obviously under some sort of training pointing at least 6 speed camera's in my direction off an overpass........glanced down at the speedo and.........lets hope it's not 6 speeding fines Does the 10% rule still apply?

Short answer, no. But if they're doing LIDAR training it's unlikely you'll get a ticket, and certainly not 6 tickets. You just gave them a good example of what a speeding car looks like

Also, no such thing as a handheld speed camera. Only the vans take your picture.

Here's hoping.....on the subject of LIDAR, I am certain I read somewhere our Overland's ECW and ACC can sometimes affect the gear the police use causing false readings, recording speeds far in excess of actuals....might be a different technology in the USA??

That'd be RADAR. Put simply, it works off the difference in frequency between the sound waves sent and those returned as they bounce back closer together the faster the target is moving. If you add extra sound waves, such as from the ACC, they may slot in between the gaps of the RADAR units waves giving a higher reading. I'd say they work on different frequencies but I can't say for sure. If someone wants to drive their Overland through Elliott between 8 and 4 tomorrow I can test it for you.

That said, even road signs can give false readings sometimes; you still need a visual estimate of speed, and I can tell that a car isn't actually doing 168km/hr when my RADAR has a spaz attack.

Just FYI, certain traffic units in Qld (eg State Traffic Support) do have LIDAR units fitted with cameras.

Are they handheld? We have the same LIDAR units we use on the roadside with cameras attached but they're in vans manned by Auxiliaries, and the camera setup is not something that is portable enough to really leave the car.

QPS does have a lot more money than us, but they're paid much less. I'll take the money in my pocket over a camera on my laser gun.

EDIT: Found this: http://www.caradvice.com.au/151906/q...speed-cameras/
Pretty cool. I'd still rather stop someone and talk to them. Nothing slows people down like red and blue lights when someone else has been pulled over anyway, and the the idea is supposed to be prevention.
