first post!:D

Got a diesel Limited on the way, wondering what engine oil it uses

I looked on the Jeep site for the manual but it only has the v6 and v8 info...

Page 58 of the Supplement:

"Only use SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Low Ash engine oil such
as MOPAR, Pennzoil® or Shell Helix® which is recommended
for all operating temperatures. This engine oil
improves low temperature starting and vehicle fuel
economy."

And congratulations for being one of maybe just dozens of us who call it engine oil. Every time someone says motor oil, I wonder if they're talking about the AC motor, the windshield-wiper motor, etc., or if maybe they simply have the NASCAR accent. :)

Thank you for the info and link!

engine oil...funny, I didn't even realize my (correct) usage of it, it's just automatic...of course now that you mention it, I'm going to notice any time someone writes "motor" oil:D (but I too like referring to things as they should be:))

From the manual:

We recommend you use ACEA C3 5W-30 engine oil meeting Chrysler material
standard MS-11106 or Penzoil Ultra Euro L full sythetic 5W-30 motor oil

The big part to this is Chrysler (or Fiat) material standard MS-11106, very few pass this.
So if you are doing your own oil change, make sure you cover this to cover your warranty.

Mobil1 5W30 ESP is about the only one that meets the specs that include MS-11106.

The Penrite 5W-40 has about 30% more Ash than the Mobil as well. Possibly not so good for the Particulate Filter.

I love Penrite oils, but for the Jeep I'm using Mobil. The Penrite Enviro+ 5W-30 does have the lower Ash level like mobil, but doesn't have MS-11106 and the HT/HS value is slightly lower than the Mobil.
