Re: WK2 Diesel Owners: Would you buy it again?

5500km and nearly 3 months old. Would definitely buy again. I initially wanted the Hemi sound to go with everything else and was concerned about turbo lag on the diesel but after a week of ownership I was glad I got the CRD. I can overcome the small amount of lag with a heavier foot and when you do, wow, it pulls like a train, better than my drive in the Hemi could produce. The sound, most of the time I am listening to tunes so I don't hear much from under the hood anyway. Also overtaking on the highway is completely effortless. With diesel at the same price as unleaded (roughly) and half the consumption of the Hemi, I am happy with the decision!

Re: WK2 Diesel Owners: Would you buy it again?

Diesel owners, especially with high mileage, do your GCs smoke? Is the engine loud with popcorn popper noise?

I am seriously considering one, here in the US (California).

MY2012/Aug 2011 build. 55,000k's. no smoke, no noise, great economy (averaging 8-9l/100klm's...26-30 mpg), a beautiful engine

The new diesel is different from the last generation because it's now a "clean" diesel with cleaner emissions than a gasoline engine, hence their availability in California. So, you really need to ask this question on other clean diesel SUV forums, ie Mercedes, Audi, BMW etc.

Interesting re the DPF. It was one of the things that the salesman I first spoke to raised. Apparently the JGC diesel looks after its own filter and will keep it clean its self.

Will find out in the fullness of time

That's right! All one has to do is get the DPF temperature above 600°C for a little while every now and again and it burns off the gunk. Around town it rarely gets that hot but give it a squirt up a hill and the DPF temperature quickly exceeds 600°. If you have an auto scanner, it's fun to monitor the DPF temperature as you drive.

Re: WK2 Diesel Owners: Would you buy it again?

Went to test drive a TDI Volkswagen Touareg today and have to say it helped sell me on the diesel. So smooth and quiet ... Similar setup to the Grand Cherokee as well 240hp ... 1 mpg better on the highway. Almost enough to have me consider the Touareg over the GC but the Touareg stickered at $60K. Yikes

Re: WK2 Diesel Owners: Would you buy it again?

Definitely. This is the first diesel I've owned and I won't be going back to petrol. In the unlikely event I sell this car it would only be to upgrade to a newer JGC CRD

Re: WK2 Diesel Owners: Would you buy it again?

I drive a 2008 with the Mercedes CRD that has 117,000 miles. There's no smoke and I've even given rides to people who didn't know it was a diesel because they aren't as loud as they used to be. We'll probably replace it with a 2014 diesel.

If you're wondering, the 2007 and 2008 diesels use a particulate filter to take care of the soot, but the nitrates in the exhaust didn't meet the CARB standards.

Re: WK2 Diesel Owners: Would you buy it again?

Hi,

i own a WK2 Overland Diesel since last summer and i am really happy with it.
Here in europe with high gas pricing, the hemi or even the penta-v6 is nearly ......there is no way to sell it as a dealer ....
Guess nearly 99 percent are Diesel-Engines.

The engine is running great and silent. It is a very powerful engine and consumes nearly the half then the Hemi-V8, about 9L per 100km.
Another point is the huge distance you can go with a full tank of diesel,
nearly 1000km. Lovely

Now, after approx. 10000km i would buy it again, definetely.

Re: WK2 Diesel Owners: Would you buy it again?

I test drove the Porsche Cayenne Diesel last week. It drove well, pulled and accelerated well, and was quiet. It's a nice car, but I want a Jeep with its off-road capability.

Re: WK2 Diesel Owners: Would you buy it again?

2012 WK2 Limited CRD

I definitely would buy again.

I have done just under 20,000km and have averaged 8.9lt/100km. Plenty of power, Nice and quiet, great on fuel, plenty of room inside and the missus loves it..

Only gripes I have with mine is the lack of aftermarket gear for them and the price of parts in Australia.

The prices are inflated on genuine and aftermarket parts here. I recently priced a set of rims delivered from the USA for $1,100AUD and got them priced in Australia for $1,900AUD :-/
