It ticks all the boxes but not Chrysler MS-11106.

Question Re: WK2 Diesel Owners: Would you buy it again?

Hi Bob,
I have tried to ague about oils etc seems one size fits all so far so good with vehicle I love my WK2 has so many things better than my Prado before it just wish it had extra seats and more roof rack area like it had then I would never look back.
Still think prado was better 4x4 but WK2 way better office!
Just hate the parts prices Chrysler charges here compared to US/Canada no excuse for the rip off!

I would have no hesitation using the Fuchs oil you have but the oils we have found that most closely meet the WK2 CRD's requirements are Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30 and Pennzoil Ultra Euro L. We can't get Pennzoil downunder so some of us have taken to supplying the stealers with our own Mobil 1.

The mobile 1 esp is what they run in the Mercedes diesels up this way. They use a 15,000 km oil change interval FYI.

That's a long time between changes, no matter how good the oil it still gets contaminated with byproduct from the engine would much rather change it sooner (and filter) than later, as I stated previously my Nissan diesel has now done over 300,000 km and is as good as the day it left the showroom, no oil usage or strange noises. Changed the oil at 5000km and simply used Castrol Magnetic oil which our dealer had recommended.

And I guess there is another point, how long do you intend to keep the vehicle?

PS: another thing regarding oil that's worth investigating, how about using synthetic oil in the transmission? Supposed to improve shifting and fuel consumption if you can believe the advertising.

The catch is that the 15,000km is achievable with these oils only if a fleece type oil filter is used. Paper filters filter down to 30microns but fleece filters to 5microns. The Grand uses the plain old paper filters so I wouldn't push it..

Not suggesting longer just that it is a good oil choice. It has good longevity.

Re: WK2 Diesel Owners: Would you buy it again?

Since I have a Cayenne on order, I have started checking on the maintenance requirements. As some of you guys know, Porsche requires 5,000 miles oil change intervals. That is lower than VW or Audi, which uses similar engines.

There is speculation that the main reason is soot build up with the quality of NA diesel. I don't really know the answer, but it is something to think about when dealing with diesel engines.

Here is the thread discussing the Cayenne oil change requirements:

That is just bizarre? Mercedes runs theirs to 10,000 miles... I think they are just soaking you for extra money. It is the exact same engine as the touareg.
