Agreed! Frequent oil changes won't clear soot, a good hard run will. I'm guessing they figure Porsche buyers appreciate the extra attention and are happy to pay for it.

I believe that the reference is to the soot in the actual oil which any good diesel oil is designed to handle...

No worries on the "clean diesel" though. My ML320 was urea injection and so have been the other recent diesel I have run. They all go 10,000 miles between oil changes. Mercedes is a little like the Cayenne though with "extra" services needed. It had to have a full transmission fluid change /service every 40,000 miles which again makes no sense to me? Not like it is optional though
