Difference in SRT build quality?

I'm almost a Jeep owner, in a couple weeks I can make that into a more definite statement. However, after reading some things on here regarding issues people have had with their cars it made me wonder something. Is there any difference in build quality between an SRT and any other Grand Cherokee?

The dealer mentioned to me that the different trim levels of vehicles are built in batches for ease of setting up the line. Besides different technical specification and different parts, are the SRT's built any better then their brethren?

This may be a foolish question, but I'm just curious.

Re: Difference in SRT build quality?

My opinion is that the SRT's are not built to any higher standard than the rest of the line. I believe you're paying more just for all the performance upgrades. You still see the same paint issues, trim misalignments, panel fitment problems, etc. that all GC have.

Re: Difference in SRT build quality?

Nope, better quality materials but not fit and finish. Guys in that forum also complain about the same stuff. The fender flares on my Summit don't fit well with edges coming up in spots, same ones that come on SRT and their fit sucks too.

Re: Difference in SRT build quality?

These posts are uncorrect. Not all GCs have the above issues. My jeep srt has none.

Re: Difference in SRT build quality?

There are also thousands and thousands of wk2 owners with no problems...
I must remind u that most people come to internet forums to complain or search for ways to resolve problems.

When I said "all" I meant across the trim lines. Not every single GC coming off the line. Of the two SRT's I've own they have both needed trim alignment. Another SRT I looked at when I was going through the buy back process was so bad I wrote down the VIN# off the window sticker to make sure I didn't get that one. No they aren't all like that, but there's a heck of a lot of them that do.

Re: Difference in SRT build quality?

i have a 2015 REDLINE with the red vopor package and i have had 1 item, the exhaust shield was hitting and rattling, but other than that absolutely nothing wrong. i also have a 2008 limited with 176000 miles that looks like it has 20000 miles and very few issues with it.

Re: Difference in SRT build quality?

I don't work at the plant, but if I had to guess there is no difference in build quality, materials, or workmanship between different models. They all for the most part use interchangeable parts and the dude working in the factory probably doesn't give a rats ass whether the car he is working on is an SRT or a basic Laredo. All models will come off the line with perfect examples and all will come off the line with a slight imperfection or two.
I have a late built 2014 Summit and with exception of a very small paint imperfection (looks like dust got in the paint) on the drivers door the car is perfect in every way. Fit and finish were top notch.

Re: Difference in SRT build quality?

So u saw 3 of the over 15k jeep srt's sold and came to a conclusion based on that? 3 of 15000. I see that as a dealer problem to. Why did they put thoae in the lot with trum misaligned? Also...could the misalignment of trim be a problem you assumed is a problem and maybe its not? Maybe that wss how they were supposed to be installed? Do u have pics? I live near and have bought 2 wk2 SRT's from ine of the top SRT jeep dealers in the country and i have NEVER seen misalinged moldings, panels etc. Interior or exterior. In fact Bob Lutz..former boss at Chevy called the Jeep SRt the best built american vehicle....period! That was his statement. Imho all these problem most are having with trannies etc. are just made up in peoples minds feom what theyve read in the net. Quit driving like grandmas, quit going over speed bumps praying to hear a noise...crank up that 19 speaker HK system...install a man's exhaust and enjoy your muscle SUV! Cause they probably wont be around too much longer! Then you see men 19-65 begging for the 6.4 hemi in an SUV! Quit being women and enjoy it for now!

Re: Difference in SRT build quality?

Well, I didn't get to do a final inspection on all 15,000 SRT's, but it's my guess Jeep didn't have any inspection them either.

I'm also one of those complainers that got tired of being jerked forward every time it down shifted into 4th gear(with a loud clunk as well). So yes, my SRT was replaced by FCA and my new one shifts excellent. Nothing like my original.

I'm sorry, but for $75k the trim should be applied strait and the transmission should downshift without my head hitting the steering wheel. It's what I expect for $75k. I'm not just happy listening to a glorious soundtrack.

Here are some pictures of my misaligned rear fender flare. Two of the push pins were not even seated and were so far off the entire thing had to be removed, new tape installed then correctly oriented. I also had a wheel replaced because someone must have let a socket go skidding a crossed it at the factory or at the dealer when they have to fix a rear brake pad that wasn't seated properly, but I guess I should have lived with the squeaky semi-functional brake. After all it was only $75K. What was I expecting.

Re: Difference in SRT build quality?

The fact is these SRT's aren't scrutinized any more than any other GC model. They are not always perfect.
