14 SRT Transmission Replacement at 2700 Miles

I got the word today that my dealership submitted an order to replace my zf hp870 with a new 8-70 out of the new US factory. I've had my Jeep in three times since about 250 miles for fluid leaks. At first they thought they fixed the tranny cooler line leak and thought it was also overfilled.
Now it's worse and if they attempt to repair I'll be eligible for the lemon law. I don't want that and neither do they. I love my truck and just want it back to normal. There is nothing internally defective with the transmission. There is a leak at the cooler connections, and it's non serviceable. I have no idea how long it will take to get, but at least it'll be new and installed by the only SRT tech I trust and have worked with for seven years.

Hopefully I can work a lifetime maxicare warranty out of it. Or maybe a hellcat as a loaner . I hope by documenting this it can help diagnose other trucks that may have illusive issues.

Let us know how it works it out! Hopefully it will be good as new.

Was the original tranny built in a different factory?

Thanks, I did forget to mention that my transmission was sourced from ZF in Germany. It was a May 2014 build, towards the end of the MY. I know the US plant is up and running now, but not sure if they can allocate for replacements yet.

I will update after the tear down to see how it was damaged. It was doomed from the word go as fluid was leaking at 200 miles. May have been mishandled during its journey to the factory or just a manufacturing defect.

I'm not 100%, but I believe some late 14s got them and all 15s are getting the US made transmissions. A Vin or window sticker check will show origin country.

So...interesting turn of events with my Jeep. When the dealership plugged the Vin in and the issue they were told it was unserviceable and needed replacement.

The next day SRT engineering got involved and walked it down with the tranny tech. They felt comfortable allowing an external repair given the leak point was known and no drivability issues. Parts were overnighted to replace the compression fittings for the cooler in/out on the housing and associated o rings and lines.

Once they pulled it apart it became obvious how it was leaking. Both the ZF factory and the assembly plant missed it. There was a small burr on the connector nipple. When threading on the cooler line that burr punctured the o ring.

The tech at Rairdon was able to replace the fittings and o ring, and polish the scratch out made by the burr. After we did the fluid level check sequence and drove it around I ran it hard then parked it to see if any leaks would develop.

It been two days and not a drop or residue on the chassis or ground. I will keep watching, but kudos to Rairdon and SRT for working the solution I really wanted anyway. I will be perusing a lifetime power train warranty since there is a small chance a shard could've broke off and be floating around that we couldn't flush.

So the 2015 8-70s are made in US? Did chysler mess with the design like they did on the 45s? or is it just identical design manufactured here? I veguely remember them talking about this a while ago but didnt know it had happened. Good to know

Under Chrysler's license to produce ZF transmissions they are allowed to make certain modifications

But that is just for the 45s right Chrysler makes those in India and mucks with them to make them shift badly and then ships them here. The 70s are still made by ZF but are made here in South Carolina at a ZF plant I think it was.
