15 SRT hardships within first weeks...

Within first weeks, approximately 600 miles of ownership I've had many complications. On first day I pressed the horn and the plastic/leather cracked in a circle around the srt emblem on the steering wheel. Dealer took pictures, ordered part and replaced within two weeks no cost. Next within days my automatic side view mirror tilt when in reverse kept getting stuck. Completely random, I cannot recreate for the life of me, just happens purely randomly not consistent. Dealer played dumb with this one and said they had to see it in order to diagnose it. Go figure when I went to pick up my mirrors were fixed in the down position, they said it most of happened when the kid valeted it for me.... Killin me. A scary thing happened while driving the uconnect screen went black. Could not get to come back on, pulled car over, turned off and restarted screen stayed black. Perplexed I just went on with my evening and after about a two hour dinner came out to car and was on again. Mentioned to dealer and at first they said it could've been an automatic update, but after tech got it they said this was an acknowledged problem and had a software update that would resolve it. Lastly automatic high beams were not functions, just never would come on. Dealer said something about adjusting a setting to fix it. Kind of bummed out by all this, thinking of checking out the 15 escalades soon as a preowned market develops. Also read an article about a 2015 GC tested by cars.com on their year long testing and it died out after 12.5k miles needed a new engine. Signs of this started with random stalling. Fingers crossed this will not be my case. Would be my luck...ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1419828618.959608.jpg

Re: 15 SRT hardships within first weeks...

Sorry to hear the trouble you've had. Glad you have it fixed though the two week wait would have sent me into a fit.

I've looked for the "Also read an article about a 2015 GC tested by cars.com on their year long testing and it died out after 12.5k miles needed a new engine."

But not having luck finding this write up. Any idea were they stashed it on their site?
I searched for 2014 instead of 15 since it'd be hard to do a year long test on the 15.

Thanks.

Two things, you may already know, about the auto high beams.

They must be turned on in the uConnect screen.
You must manually turn the high beams on from the stalk on the steering column. The system is not designed to turn the high beams on, it only turns them off when necessary due to oncoming headlights.

You're right it was a 2014... The article was titled "2014 Jeep Cherokee Has Forced Engine Swap at Just 13k Miles" dated 12/24/14 from carbuzz

Should I still consider a sort or should I stay away. I thought it was risky buying my current car a Landover discovery 4 which has been great, but these jeeps sound dodgy.

Consider it only my experience but I'm not too satisfied. Beautiful car, just a lot of things going wrong and mpg is not even close to the epa suggested. Car I had before got 2miles over highway on same routes and this one is two under city on avg.

Re: 15 SRT hardships within first weeks...

The article on cars.com involves a Jeep Cherokee not Grand Cherokee. but things happen . After reading part of the article it looks like cars.com overlooked some warning signs, maybe out come would have been different if they weren't over looked who knows. First year is always a learning curve, but my buddy bought brand Toyota Serena van 300 miles engine threw a rod, he wanted a brand new replacement vehicle they just replaced engine.

So long story short they all have problems, things are not perfect lol

Not trying to derail the conversation, but the mirrors tilting down when in reverse function, is that for 2015 only? I cannot seem to find that function anywhere on my 2014.

Should be in driving/safety assistance menu.

The key word being "suggested"

Don't ever expect any car to deliver mpg as quoted as the tests for these are far from real world. If you match or better then consider it a bonus.

Besides, if you bought an SRT expecting good gas mileage then you bought the wrong car

Re: 15 SRT hardships within first weeks...

SRT and mpg should never b in the same sentence, when I bought my '14 back in dec '13 the last thing on my mind was mpg, I was expecting single digit mpg's all the way , on avg when I drive and I drive it on track n sport mode only I'm getting 11mpg so that exceeded my expectations. When my wife drives it she gets close to 13 mpg , the ECO button on this SRT has NEVER been used, we were able to get 21mpg on our way to vegas driving in sport mode all the way . If mpg is what you care about get a prius 😜
