Re: 2014 SRT Whistle noise during 60-35mph deceleration

Thanks Scott - that makes me feel a bit better.

Still not so thrilled that people have had their CV joints replaced and still experience the problem.

Told by the dealership it's the Tranny breaking in and "learning - adapting" to the driving style and to wait until 1000 km's by one guy, 2500 km's by another guy and 5000 km's by another guy until this is resolved or the tranny "learns" .... For such a top end vehicle (after the viper) proposed by Chrysler One would think you would enjoy driving it right out of the lot. Disappointed and not sure who to contact and dealership is of no help... Have owned BMW and Mercedes - none of which required the suffering and sacrifice of this stupid breaking in "learning-adapting" period at the sacrifice of the driving experience of the owner.... Anyone else having this issue, no of a fix?? Dealerships in Canada seem to be out to lunch with some of the high school techs they have working for them - no help.

Help a fellow Canadian SRT enthusiasts guys!!
try the 1855 SRT team and talk with SRt customer service. That is not right...my 14' is as smooth as a babies butt.

Re: 2014 SRT Whistle noise during 60-35mph deceleration

Thanks Scott. I will have to try them again... SRT only has offices/operations in the US - nothing in Canada and we have to deal with the dealers/Chrysler. Anyone else experiencing this with their new 2014 jeep srt's? If anyone is experiencing this with their jeep in Canada and had success with the dealership on a fix, please let me know... Thank you,

Did anyone check if the whistle is the drive by wire system? Does the whistle occur with the speed control on. Set the speed control to 60 mph and press on the gas to 70 mph. Let go of the gas petal and allow the speed control to bring the car back to 60 mph. See if there is a difference with and without the speed control during deceleration.

Re: 2014 SRT Whistle noise during 60-35mph deceleration

Finally made it home after two weeks driving a Jaguar... Oh how I missed the Red Rocket (since the name Beast was taken). I left my SRT with the techs and they gave it back to me with zero added miles, the same whine when decelerating, and a promise to replace any part that Jeep issues a service bulletin. The shop manager was very apologetic but he insisted that we shouldn't replace drivetrain or axle parts just because we suspect noise. He was more than willing to do what I wanted, but I opted to wait and see if the Rocket grew out of it.
I did note that the whine only occurred when I had the AC on. Turned the AC off and let off the gas and the whine wasn't noticeable. I tried the same test on 3 mornings and the results are the same.
With 400 miles on it the noise is almost gone now, but the tranny is now shifting up and down at strange times while it "learns" how I drive. We'll see what the next couple hundred miles bring, but I can sure tell you the only lesson I will be teaching the tranny is shift fast, I got a lot of speeding tickets to earn!

I have a 2014 SRT and I also have a wine type noise on deceleration down to about 38 MPH then it disappears! I noticed it on my very first ride home from the dealer! Now with 2800 miles later it still does it and it has not changed in anyway!! So I guess it's the nature of the beast (LOL).

Re: 2014 SRT Whistle noise during 60-35mph deceleration

My '14 SRT developed the "whine" at about 300 miles, disappeared for several hundred, and suddenly returned a few days ago. Coupled with a strange bumping/metallic scraping coming from the rear gearbox I decided to go to the dealer. They called today and said they are replacing the "prop shafts", u-joints, and a solenoid in the rear axle. Sounds like a strange combination of parts but as long as the warranty covers them, yay for new stuff I guess.
One thing that I noticed while staring up at the undercarriage while it was on the lift... there is a big plastic panel that extends form roughly the rear axle back to the rear fascia bumper, apparently for aerodynamics.. but the front part of the frame is mounted to very flimsy plastic bracing that allows for serious movement of the entire mounting assembly when the pavement isn't as smooth as we might like. I am wondering if some of the thumping or rattling might be caused by that plastic frame vibrating and bumping the exhaust pipes or even as a result of vibration when at idle? Seems there might be a metal pop rivet that might tap against an exhaust pipe where it makes the curve just behind the rear wheel.
We'll know more in a few days.

Re: 2014 SRT Whistle noise during 60-35mph deceleration

I just bought my new 2014 Jeep SRT on Aug 31st and thought I would throw my 2 cents worth into this in an effort to help others possibly solve this. It's build date was 6-15. I never noticed the whine until the first time I tried the launch button. If your going 55 and take foot completely off gas there is a pause for a few seconds and then the while starts at exactly the same time you feel an ever so slight deceleration from the engine slowing the vehicle. Clearly the noise is related to the drivetrain and not some wind noise. So I immediately thought what if you put it in neutral? I bumped it into neutral at 50 mph and the noise completely stopped the second I did it. It's somehow related to the reverse transfer of power in the drivetrain - the wheels wanting to rev up the engine slightly (like minor engine braking). Its not immediate when you take your foot off gas but rather a second or two later, and the jeep slows ever so slightly more when it starts. I never noticed it before I used the launch button. Too bad it's in there, the vehicle is awesome otherwise. My time was a 4.9 btw. I bought it with 12 miles on it and I tried the launch at 190 miles. Now I must behave and break it in better. I'll be surprised if there is an easy fix for this but I could be wrong, seems like an unexpected design flaw and not some part made out of tolerance, but I guess that doesn't explain why some have the noise and others don't. Maybe some people are more prone to notice things like that??

I thought I saw in a post that some people replaced the cv joints and still had the noise? So replacing the prop shaft cv joints has worked for others and is the real solution? Thanks for any input everyone.

Re: 2014 SRT Whistle noise during 60-35mph deceleration

We in Australia have a few members who have the same problem - mainly reported in non-SRT's (so sorry to intrude on your thread). Has there been any confirmed fix or other change in status of the problem, since the last post here on 3 September?
Thanks,
Russell
