The only thing that makes me nervous is whether or not the person doing the updating is competent enough to make sure it is done properly.
Hopefully this the last update that is needed. I see that there have been several over the months. Why is this? Does the transmission need constant updating? That shouldn't be the case, right??
I just did the update at the dealership...interesting and noticeable changes...good and bad:
Good - At kickdown the transmission rapidly downshifts in the lowest gear - much faster than before the update.
Bad/interesting - at highway speeds it stays in 8th gear unless you floor it or rapidly brake. Just letting your foot off the pedal completely doesn't make it downshift as it did before the update, which I actually liked better before, but we'll see.
I also noticed the shift points seem a bit higher which makes the truck a bit quicker...
Update - The vehicle feels much faster now, I'm not sure what they put in the update but it's almost feels like an overall tune and not just a TCM update.
This is awesome, I'm really glad you had this resolved by the software...unfortunately I did not have the same luck, but possibly my issue had gone on so long that it became a mechanical problem. I think JS is in the same boat.
Right here with yah. Working on my replacement and trying to get mine put back together so I can beat the piss out of it for a while. Grattan raceway is only a couple miles from me.
I'm trying to work a replacement vehicle (red vapor edition) but only a few with the options I want in the US right now and dealers not particularly cooperative feeling.
I'm getting another billet silver one, but have only found two. One doesn't have the tow package and the other is sitting on my original dealers lot. I don't want it for a couple of reasons.
1. It's on my original dealers lot.
2. The fit of the rear bumper cover to the quarter panels and fender flares is awful. I actually took a picture of the window sticker to make sure I don't get stuck with that one.
Picked mine up today. Oddly it's a very noticeable difference in a good way. I remember looking at the gear number thinkin it looked funny, now it looks great as I'm driving. Rev and it lowers then settling in high speeds it remains high but as u speed up lowers again. Before just seem to rev to high to quick and not lower quick enough. Also mpg looks more favorable as I drive. I'm happy with it.
I'm dropping mine off in the morning for the newest PCM flash...we'll see if it helps the 1-2 slip issue the first shift of the day, along with a 4-5 slip in Sport and 6-5 "hard lurch" in Auto.
I had mine done at Landers and it was actually a pretty nice experience. Kevin Russell has been my service adviser/main point of contact and the few times I've dealt with him he has been straight forward and gotten things done exactly as I asked. I'd definitely speak with him if you can. He also waited until I got there to pick it up to ask if I wanted it run through their car wash, which I did not. He said he knows most of the SRT guys hand wash, so he wanted to ask before doing anything.
In addition to the transmission flash, they also did the TPMS update and finally got my steering wheel centered. I can definitely tell a difference with the transmission flash, in a good way. I'm interested to see how the week goes as it re-learns. Not sure how best to describe it, but the auto now has some more of the Sport shifting characteristics, without being too sporty.
Update: i had this completed this morning and as mentioned by others, the vehicle performs markedly different in a good way. Shifts are smoother, more responsive and seemingly more in line for how this vehicle should have been delivered from the factory. I also no longer get the 8th gear groan and MDS lag when accelerating. 6-5 downshift is also noticeably smoother.
So far very pleased. Hopefully it continues to perform like this.
Just had this done this morning. Shifts feel smoother under light throttle. Down shifts aren't nearly as rough. Prior to this on occasion the 6-5 downshift and 3-2 downshift felt like I was deploying a parachute. More often under moderate throttle and quick deceleration. That seems to have diminished. Wot feels a touch smoother too. Gets up and goes and seems to be in the correct gear. Auto mode also feels a touch more peppy. So far 40 miles on her since the flash. Keep you posted. 4900 miles 2015 srt jeep
Does this not apply to 14s? I thought they are mechanically identical. Mine has a March 2013 build date making it an early 2014 (first at the dealer) and I'm taking mine in for service today and one of my gripes is the rough downshifting.
