Awful sound from wheel well

I'm only 200 miles into ownership, and I'm having an issue with my SRT. I really have no idea what sound is coming from my car, but let me describe what is happening to see if any of you have had this issue before:

Under acceleration (any acceleration, mild or heavy, at any speed) if the wheel is turned right (whether its 1 degree or a full turn), I hear an awful sound coming from my front left wheel well. Its a loud rattling sound. Its louder the heavier I accelerate. The sound stops the second I lift my foot off of the accelerator.

Now if I'm driving straight or to the left while accelerating, I hear no sound, just the beautiful purr of the car. I didn't see anything in the wheel well that looked out of place, but I could barely see in there with these huge tires.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Awful sound from wheel well

It sounds like it's suspension related.
I would get it checked out ASAP to prevent further damage or an accident.
Good luck and let us know what the outcome is.

Re: Awful sound from wheel well

So after more testing, this violent rattle happens more under two scenarios,
--the harder the right turn
--the higher the rpms at the time

I have no clue what it could be. I took it in for service today. They were able to replicate the issue, however they don't know what it is. That doesn't make me feel great at this juncture. I'll keep you posted if they figure it out.

Any passengers in my car actually tell me they feel unsafe being in the car the sound is so abrasive and loud.

Re: Awful sound from wheel well

So I got the call that the heat shield was vibrating under load against the exhaust near the engine. Its supposedly fixed. I'm thrilled to get her back.

Re: Awful sound from wheel well

I have been experiencing the exact same thing! I only have 80 miles on a 2016. Was this the actual solution I am about to take mine back in this week be nice to avoid the back and forth with the dealer... thanks in advance!

Re: Awful sound from wheel well

The dealer found one of the bolt studs was sticking out too far and under the right conditions like when the engine is under load or when turning right (causing the muffler to bump up against it).

They simply shaved the bolt back - no more weird sound.

Re: Awful sound from wheel well

Snowbill27 thanks for the update. My SRT also seems to make an awful noise when turning right under hard acceleration. Sounds like it's coming from the front drivers side wheel well.

Re: Awful sound from wheel well

...I'm pretty sure it's the same thing.

FYI: Mine would get worse the more I drove it. Dealer said because the exhaust was heating up and expanding causing it to bump up against the truck. So if you take it in make sure to tell them they have to drive it for more than 10 miles otherwise they could miss it, they did that with mine the first time and thought I was crazy , then they finally heard and was like "ok we need to fix that!" LOL.

Still took them a while to find it. So if you want have them call Joe who is the head service guy over at Koons in Tysons VA, it will save them a lot time and you can get your truck back faster.

Hope this helps!
