Bizarre Exhaust Occurance

In the midst of a vacation holiday family drive of about 150 miles, we stopped for gas and relief. I fill the seemingly infinite tank and then grab a squeegee to clean the glass. As I approach the back of the Jeep I notice some goldish strands of "flax" just inward of the passenger side exhaust tip. I'm thinking what the heck could have possibly got sucked into the exhaust pipe or whether someone nearby was being malicious. So I reach down and begin the process of pulling out a yellow/gold 50 foot long ladies wig! Soon realized that it was the fiberglass from either the resonator or muffler. Came to an end before it occurred to me that I should have grabbled my work gloves from the trunk (took some time to pull out all the damn fibers from my hands).

At idle there is no noticeable increase in the sound volume from that side. Didn't test it at a higher RPM. No check eng light. No temp. fluctuations. No other noticeable changes of any kind.

Anyone else ever have this odd experience?

Re: Bizarre Exhaust Occurance

A few days after washing my black '15 SRT I notice small fiber strands in the dust that regularly accumulates on the rear liftgate and windshield. Interested to see if anyone has further insight into this.

Re: Bizarre Exhaust Occurance

Isn't that just packing from the catalytic converter blowing out? Got a pic?

Here are some examples. The fibers are of varying lengths and if I leave it go for a week or so, the rear surfaces will sparkle

Re: Bizarre Exhaust Occurance

99% sure that's just packing from your cats blowing out.

See it blowing everywhere at dyno days when someone puts a newer car on the rollers.

Re: Bizarre Exhaust Occurance

I wasn't sure from which portion of the exhaust it might be from. Here's a quick pic I took after I threw the 50' in the trash bin.

Car's been running fine without it, but at my next service I'll have them check and replace.
