Anyone have this happen yet? The Carbonfiber Strip just above the glove box is completely twisted and pulling away from the dash. Hard to see in the picture. Not sure if it is just glued or what but I assume it was caused by the warm teps we've had in Chicago. I guess I will be heading to the dealer.
WOW really it's laminated plastic they did not prep the plastic properly or used a lesser quality resins meant for lamination.
I have noticed on Mine that it's a bit cloudy I just did some wrap work and I'll try to show the cloudiness.
Either way this should be covered by the Warrantee.
I have the two front windows done. They aren't extremely dark but they are tinted. I think this is just an issue with the glue used to secure to the dash or other panels.
I asked about tint because I have 5% tint and no issues. Jeep sat parked all day today in the sun at almost 90 degrees. I was wondering if maybe the dark tint helped from having the dash heat up so much.
I have not tinted anything yet. Even though I live in Dallas it has not been that hot. I can't imagine what will happen this summer when outdoor temps top 115.
Can only imagine what will happen in the Australian sun. It's damn harsh down here. Jeep should have learned long ago that double side tape and glue seldom last long.
Bits and pieces falling off hardly do much for customer satisfaction.... and what happens when the warranty is out?
Just had the passenger side dash piece replaced yesterday. They had to take a bunch of pics and send the old part back to the mothership. Oh yeah, no tint.
I took the interior of the 2012 I have apart and inspected how these parts where built and I was dead on they are Laminated Plastic and the reason they are separating is like I mentioned earlier the surface was not prepped correctly. None of the parts on the dash I have are peeling yet but I can see a separation of where it is starting to come off the plastic around the edges. These parts need to be made differently. If they are not this will continue to happen. I considered wrapping all of the trim in Carbon now that their out but holding these parts in my hand they are extremely cloudy and I will not be able to match them with my work the only way around it will be to strip all of the OEM carbon and redo them my way. I'm having a hard time ripping all of it off seems counterproductive with the amount of work I have to do I may just do them all Piano Black and call it a day.
Was out on business all last week and truck sat outside in parking lot at airport. Noticed today when I got in that the entire piece across the dash, above the glove box, warped and popped out from the bottom side right in the middle. Much bigger warping than in the first pic of this thread.
I really hope this doesn't turn out to be a consistent problem, but I fear it will. These pieces ARE NOT cheap. If it occurs outside of warranty you'll be looking at a hefty fee. I'm not one to get on manufacturers and start claiming poor build/lemon/yadda yadda....but if anyone related to SRT is reading this: YOU NEED TO START PLANNING NOW FOR A SOLUTION TO HANDLE THIS FOR US OWNERS. The last thing I want to continue to deal with in the truck is constantly warping carbon fiber pieces! We owners cannot stop high temps while parked outside.
P.S. Had my entire windshield replaced 2 weeks ago too, shattered from a small stone.
