Chrysler Replacing Transmission :: 2014 Jeep SRT

I posted a reply to this in a different thread, but thought it makes sense to start a new one. After having issues with downshifting that produced a hard shudder/jerk 100% of the time, they have determined the issue is internal. The transmission fluid had metal chips in it.

So they are shipping a "new" transmission from Detroit to Florida. I'm at a loss for how a car with 5K miles on it develops this type of problem.

Has anyone else experienced this type of issue with my model? If so, you need a new transmission.

Any additional thoughts/advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Chrysler Replacing Transmission :: 2014 Jeep SRT

Interesting. I have almost 13K on my 2014 (purchase April 30, build date of March '13). The other day I noticed on slow/coasting to a stop the downshifts seems 'hard'. I let it go... thought maybe the roads, the winter tires, or it was just cold.

Noticed it again on the way to work (city driving) - then drove from Lansing to DTW airport and hit stop and go traffic and no issue. Ran like a champ, never noticed anything... but it was warmer and after some 'spirited' free way driving...

Another forum member or 2 has mentioned hard downshifts... considering it is the same 8 speed (I THINK) in all WK2 - maybe it is just luck of the draw

Re: Chrysler Replacing Transmission :: 2014 Jeep SRT

with ANY man made product theres gonna be failures. Man is not perfect...therefore what he builds is not perfect. You are the first Ive heard to have a tranny replaced. This ZF tranny is built in Germany and used on many vehicles. My wifes audi a7 has the same tranny for instance. the RRS supercharged is another. I would guess they build tens of thousands of these per year for all manufacturers. You will be good as new soon.

Agreed. Nothing is perfect. At least it is covered. All part of ownership

Re: Chrysler Replacing Transmission :: 2014 Jeep SRT

So I don't have a SRT yet but I'm on the verge of getting one. I currently have a 2014 Summit (March 2013 build date) and did have the transmission replaced with less than 1000 miles due to a noticeable "bump" around 10 mph. This obviously seems like a different issue but the end results appears to be the same.

Re: Chrysler Replacing Transmission :: 2014 Jeep SRT

I haven't been happy with how mine downshifts from the first week I've had it. The worst one is 6th down to 5th. It clunks very noticeably well over half the time to the point where people ask me what's wrong with my new car. 5th to 4th does it too but not as bad.

I'm taking it in on Saturday to have them look at it. We'll see what they say.

I had the same problem as yours.. But, it was solved thru resetting the car by removing the negative terminal on the batter for about 1 minute.

After the reset, the upshift and downshift is now smooth and you can even hear the rev-match which was missing when I got the car.

Re: Chrysler Replacing Transmission :: 2014 Jeep SRT

I am having the same issue in my 2014 SRT. Only have 400 miles on it. I took it in and the dealer did a ride along and agreed there is something wrong. After a few days they said they need to replace the body valve control. No idea whats going on...

Re: Chrysler Replacing Transmission :: 2014 Jeep SRT

Bringing this thread back to life. My 2015 SRT just had its transmission replaced for this 6-5 coasting downshift clunk as I'm calling it. The dealer replace the valve body which did nothing. Then I brought it back because nothing had changed and they made sure all the software was up to date. I insisted on taking the service manager for a ride to show him the problem because they kept telling me it's normal for this model to clunk from 6-5. My dealer agree there was an issue and told me he would contact Chrysler. Three weeks later still no word from him so I got Chrysler involved. One week later I had a new tranny and torque converter installed. My shifts are defiantly improved, but not perfect. I've only put about 200 miles on it since getting it back so I waiting to give it the all clear. My SRT had about 250 miles on it when the issue started and now has 1760. This is a very condensed version of what I went through, but wanted to add it to this thread for future reference.

Re: Chrysler Replacing Transmission :: 2014 Jeep SRT

I will also add that I had this problem on my 2015 (JSBoening and I have been in communication offline as well), and Chrylser is slated to replace my transmission next week at 3K miles. JS also has had his problems come back and is taking it back to the dealer after his transmission was replaced from what I understand.

These incidents are becoming less isolated. I think a lot of it is still software related...these ZF trannys are in tons of cars without half the problems we're seeing.
