Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

Jsboening & rlarsen462, have you gotten your new vehicles yet? Curious if your new vehicles have the same issues. Mine is consistently clunking on the 6-5 downshift, and if it doesn't do it from 6-5, it does is from 5-4. Goes to the dealer next Wednesday, but seems pointless since there doesn't seem to be any fix. Needless to say, I'm PO'd!

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

I think JS got a brand new one and it's perfect. My "new" one actually had a slightly older build date than my clunker, but it seems to be much better, no clunk but it is a little rough downshifting especially when cold. I've been fine with it so far though.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

Out of curiosity, is it acceptable to those who don't have the "thunk/Clunk" but only have the harse "jerk/lurch" from 6-5 & 5-4? I have a 2015 with a 12/2014 build date and I only have the lurch and jerk. It's been driving me crazy; I have 3,500 miles on the truck right now. I've been to the dealer 5 times; A Chysler field Engineer, my dealer service manager, and a Viper tech drove the truck and acknowledged my complaint. They are confident that it is a software issue as most of us on thread concluded. I opened a case with SRT; they called a couple of weeks ago and told me there is no software updates in the works at this time, basically telling me I have to live with it. I got some pointers from JS and sent Chrysler a certified letter and waiting for a resolution. As a Jeep guy, I am so disappointed. I'm surprised a lot of guys here are willing to live with this issue.

Mine only is jerky when it's cold...not ideal but at least it doesn't clunk...that was driving me nuts.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

My replacement SRT(May 15' build) is very smooth and I am hyper sensitive to its shifting. I now have about 900 miles on it and am bringing it in on Monday for its first checkup. I'm going to insist that NO software updates take place. I'm extremely happy that Chrysler replaced it and now feel like I have the vehicle I paid for.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

no clunk, but rough 6-5 and 5-4 downshifts, nothing has helped so far, two valve body changes, and updates.....new May 2015 update getting done tomorrow....sigh!
Started looking at replacement vehicles, going to test drive a 2015 Denali 4X4 short bed crew cab pick up with 6.2, also looked at an Audi SQ-5, I like my Jeep, but it's transmission drives me nuts.....Not sure what I will do, hate to take a big financial hit on the Jeep, may do a Lemon Law, but I only have a few days left to decide, per my state law.....really torn as what to do......such a drag, wish Chrysler could just fix my trans

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

Theweavman,

I love my Jeep too except for this transmission issue. I filed with the "National Center for Dispute Resolution" to see if I can get my problem resolved before I go hire an attorney and pursue the Lemon Law. It's not my goal to give Jeep a "Black eye", I just want my Jeep fixed, replaced, or bought back if necessary. I took my Jeep to a different dealership yesterday to get another opinion. The shop foreman who drove the Jeep acknowledged the harsh shifts and told me "it is what it is" until Jeep comes out with a software update. We actually had a good talk; he's been with Chrysler for 30 years and he was explaining to me how disconnected the Enginners at the corporate level are from the field guys. He did say that the Engineers follow forums like this and if enough people complain, maybe something might get done. So, I really want to encourage all the Jeep guys, especially the SRT guys to complain as loud as possilbe that this is not acceptable. Right now, I'm waitng for the area manager to drive my Jeep. He's the one telling Chrysler Corporate that my Jeep is "operating as intended". The funny thing is, he's hasn't even driven my Jeep yet!

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

Base on JS's experience with a recent build I kind of wish I had gone that route but I really wanted the Red Vapor edition and they weren't building anymore by the time I needed to get a new one.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

I had an open ticket with the SRT Hotline people, for my trans and AC after the last valvebody replacement, and my Jeep being in the service dept for 10 days, I was asked if I was happy with the repairs, I told the Hotline people that I wanted to wait to see how the trans was after it had some time and miles to complete its re learn....I was told no problem, after a couple of months I tried to contact the same Hotline rep.... No luck, e-mails were kicked back saying my case had been closed, also called my Rep, left him a message to contact me, yep.... Nothing..... Really not happy with my overall experience with my Jeep SRT..... It's too bad that such an overall outstanding vehicle, is being clouded by poor quality control and poor customer service....

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

I feel I was fortunate to find a good service manager that went to bat for me with my regional service rep and the Chrysler higher ups. He was very insistent that my SRT was NOT operating normally and that it truly did have a problem. That combined with my letter of intent to lemon law got Chrysler to finally take action. My SRT had been in for service around 52 days and no less than 8 attempts were made at fixing it. I clearly had a solid case had it gone to court. My only regret was not getting an attorney involved earlier and saving myself the mental anguish. I'd like to think that Chrysler treated me right, but the reality is they only replaced my SRT because they were cornered. I'm still glad I stuck with the SRT, but I can't say I don't have some sour feelings about how I was treated.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

I've been wanting to do some mods to mine, but am not going to put $1 more into it until they fix the annoying clunk. I could actually live with the rough down shift, the clunk is not acceptable. I should be able to have the windows up, stereo off and near a peep as it rolls up and down the gears. I'm guessing my time at the dealer will be a waste of time, but I need to start somewhere. I know it's said over and over again, but it is absolutely unreasonable that we are paying $70K+ for this vehicle and have to deal with anything but perfection.

I'm also really confused, something isn't logical. If JS has 900 miles on his new ride (I have 983 miles on mine), his shifting is smooth for 900 miles, no clunk, etc. and Chrysler says it's software, why would mine clunk and JS's not. I have the latest software version, as I would expect JS to have since his is new. So same software, same miles, guessing same driveline components, etc. So it can't just be software, perhaps software in conjunction with some hardware?

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

I honestly don't think it's software related either.
Others have had the "latest and greatest" software update and with no luck. Or,...it's good for so many miles and reverts back to clunking.
