because mine is worse sometimes and not as bad at other times, I agree,I doubt software is the issue, It's almost like there is something moving around inside the trans, that sometimes perhaps clogs up a port in the valve body or blocks the fluid partially perhaps causing the problem....like a chip of metal, or some contaminant......but I could be way off base

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

I have invested so much time and money into my mods, that I really don't want to consider a Lemon Law switch to another SRT....probably would lose both money and all my time and efforts.....and it sounds like some of the newest ones still have the same trans problems or worse, at least I don't have the CLUNK......what a pain in the A**

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

For those of you with the "clunk" I would suggest starting with the transfer case. The transfer case and front drive shaft was the only thing in my drive line not replaced and mine never improved one bit. I think Rlarsen had about the same outcome. Logic says its in the tranny, but mine replacement tranny and torque converter behaved the same. Start with the transfer case.

I've pretty much convinced myself it's the transfer case as well...it's almost as complex and electronically controlled as the trans is and no one has gotten to the point of replacing it yet to see if it fixes the problems.

JS, are you willing to share the name of the dealership that did all of your work? I certainly don't want them to just start replacing the same parts you had replaced with no luck. I'm planning to print this thread and hand it to the service advisor and tell them to read it thoroughly before replacing anything. I'd like to also suggest they call the dealer that was doing the work on your rig as well (if you're willing to share their name and contact info).

How about I PM the contact info to you with the understanding it doesn't get posted on the open forum? I don't feel it's my place to post it publicly.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

Hi all, first post here and reason is due to the dreaded 6-5-4 clunk. New Jeep 2 months ago, had it for 2 days when I noticed the 6-5-4 clunk, straight back to dealer, software update, fixed for couple days...which is bizarre as if it was a mechanical part fault I would have though software wouldn't have fixed?

Another software update, oil change and attempt to relearn the box...no luck. Keep them flew a brand new gearbox into New Zealand and installed it...have had it a week, was good first couple days then...when backing off the dreaded 6th to 5th clink noise came back...

Ruined the experience of new vehicle, have just done 2,000 k's of which dealer had done 500k's of and out of the 3 months since I purchased it they have had it over 80% of the time...

Not sure of the next plan...it's a great vehicle except for this but at the price tag you have to be 110% satisfied...back to the dealer I'm thinking...

Have a look at this could be your transfer case is the problem.

2014/2015 - Do you have a noticeable jerk on 6-5 shifts + a clunk?

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

Thats a shame, these transmission etc problems are the bane of such an otherwise outstanding vehicle, it really dampens the new ownership experience, i really keep hopeing that they will find a real permanent cure....
