Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

2014 SRT, another un happy owner with trans problems, tried: battery disconnect, dealer tried: software up dates then a new valve body, now dealer tried latest 01/29/15 TSB update, per dealer no help, now they are going to install another new valve body tomorrow.... Not expecting that this one will be any different.... May have to push for a new transmission if this keeps up....

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

Well apparently my wife is friends with a Chrysler insider in their customer service department that handles high level stuff like lemon claims and she has taken over my case to be 100% sure it's resolved or I'm getting a new vehicle, LOL...so while this may be massively frustrating, I should have a roadmap when it's all said and done to either have the problems fully fixed, or be in a new Jeep and start over...

Pretty sad reading this thread that when mine was new I thought I wasn't going to have this issue and it's just continued to worsen just like JSBoening's did.

I will say my dealership so far has been awesome and have tried to do everything the can to help so far. They feel really bad that I'm having a crappy experience with an SRT.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

Yep, this is a real pain, mines been acting up since day one, now some 6K miles later still no real answer.... Just as a fun side note, now driving a Chrysler 200 rental while my SRT remains in the shop, the 200 has an entirely different trans, and this thing has trans problems that feel worse than my SRT, or maybe the transmission gods are just pissed at me.... LOL

LMAO I had a 200 for a week...same deal...tranny was terrible. Put it in reverse and it practically burned out at idle and surged backwards. Lucky I didn't hit anything.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

I had a Chrysler town & country...sadly the transmission was better than the one in the SRT.

Although my new trans is better than its original and the vibration is gone the clunky downshift is not 100% cured. I still get the occasional 6-5 clunk not as hard or as often as before, but it still occurs randomly. At this point I'm hoping for a software update to smooth things out completely. I've now got about 250 miles on the new trans and the learning process may still need more time. Fingers crossed. I've never owned a car with such a lost transmission its a shame. I'm going to call Chrysler care and inform them I'm still not completely satisfied and that I'm hoping a future software update will cure it. They've got to know there is a problem with these transmissions. We can't be the only ones out there with issues. At some point they have to listen.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

Ugh, that's really disappointing to hear...I was hoping it would be cleared up and behave more like the 8HP70 in the 2013 Ram 1500 I had, which was butter smooth and the reason I actually sought out a vehicle with the same transmission. :/

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

Mopar makes some great vehicles, but if they fail to get these transmissions corrected and pick up their overall quality control, they may find themselves in trouble again, there us just too much competion in the auto industry for this..... What I clearly don't understand is that this new 8 speed ZF transmission is also used in other brands like Rolls Royce, BMW, and others, and apparently without issues, so why is Chrysler having so many issues with them???? Weird!

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

Current year ZF's are made by Chrysler in Illinois under license I believe, whereas I think (at least some) 2014's were sourced directly from ZF. Just a rumor I heard, someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

I thought all ZF's that were installed behind the V6's were built by Chrysler. ZF's behind the V8's and ecodiesels are ZF's out of Germany. I thought that's how it worked anyway.

I was contacted by my case manger at Chrysler care to see how my jerp was. I informed her that I'd only put about 250 miles on it so far and that the shifting was mildly improved and that the vibration was gone. She's going to call back next week Wednesday to see if there's been any improvement after I put more miles on it. Dealer told me to put 1000 miles on it. I told her I'm hoping for a software update to further improve its performance and also informed her there were other people reporting the same issues. She was silent which tells me they know something's up.

I'm not sure if this was intentional, but I think I have a new name for the SRT...

My wife and I call it "The Clunker". JERP may be shorter. What would that stand for? Any ideas?
