Mine clunks like crazy...definitely accelerating down the same path you did now that I'm driving it again waiting for the tranny...might get too bad to continue in a week or so.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

If you guys had to pick a location beneath the vehicle the clunk/thunk sound is coming from, would you say the rear? or the middle? I've found something kinda interesting from a jeep SRT8 owner, it doesn't say what was fixed tho. [YOUTUBE]

I think that's a rear end out of the previous generation SRT. It appears to be a solid axle.

Ah yes, so probably a complete different design then our 14/15 model year.

Yes. Ours are independent rear ends, but they could still potentially suffer from the same problem.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

I would definitely say it tends to sound like the rear end, yeah, but it's associated with the jerk on downshift which obviously has to be the tranny. The Service Manager said it definitely sounded like it was from the rear end when they had the car up on the rack and were trying to replicate the sound in the shop.

Still have an ETA of 2/20 on the new transmission.

JS, are you still feeling that you're experience some of the same symptoms as before? Jerking on downshift and even the occasional clunk? Mine has gotten terrible, in fact I even thing I'm starting to get some of the groaning under cruise you were talking about that I thought might have been MDS...it's louder than the MDS now.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

It really sounds like are jeeps are twins. Mine has improved since the new tranny, but it far from perfect. I still get the occasional clunk from 6-5 and now 3-2. They aren't as violent as before, but still noticeable. My vibration is gone though so overall I'm glad I had it replaced. I'm supposed to get a call next week Wednesday from my case manager so I'll express my feelings to Chrysler that point. I'm really hoping for a software update to smooth things out further. Its unfortunate because I really like this vehicle very much, but sometimes this tranny just seems lost.

That's a totally different differential than ours so it wouldn't apply

It's the clunk/jerk/noise on downshifts that's really getting to me...the 8HP70 in the Ram 1500 I had was super smooth upshifting and downshifting, a real shame they can't seem to get it right on the SRT. The clunk just sounds super cheap and crappy, like stuff is loose and rattling around.

I'm wondering though if this isn't that pervasive on 2015's and we just got some bad ones? I would have thought we'd see a lot more complaints if this was common to all '15's.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

New update today: Now no ETA on the transmission whatsoever. Great.

If this drags far into March, will considering pursuing a buyback. What a disappointment.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

Mine is going back in on Monday. My 6-5 clunk is coming back. I'm so disappointed.

Wonderful...my transmission came in yesterday (day after they told me there was no ETA, of course) and it will be there all next week for that and the other laundry list of issues that have cropped up.

Currently I think the 6-5 jerk and the clunking sound may only be tangentially related, strangely enough. The clunk REALLY sounds like it's coming from the rear end, not the transmission.

Is your transmission still jerking on downshift when accompanying the clunks? Do the clunks seem to come from the rear end? Keep in mind they haven't truly identified the root cause of the problem yet, they are throwing transmissions at the issue hoping it will fix it, but it's possible the rear end or drive shafts or something are actually at fault, and the sound is exacerbated by the rough motion.

I don't know. At this point, seems like it's unavoidable that I'm going to have Chrysler buy this thing back...I don't see a high percentage chance of a good outcome after they replace the tranny (which maybe doesn't even fix the issue), troubleshoot the dash and electrical issues I have, replace the steering wheel (leather flap separating), solve the intermittent ESC going out...what a joke on a $70K vehicle.

Honestly JS, you might want to consider your options for a lemon law buyback as well...the lady I am working with here in CA may not be able to help, but you're obviously not getting much enjoyment out of the vehicle.

So frustrating, at this point I still like the IDEA of the vehicle, but clearly the execution is a disaster.
