Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

Mine has been in the shop now for 9 days, and they seem to going thru a series of trial and error fix attempts, SRT hotline has only suggested that the dealer and Chrysler talk more to try and come up with a fix,,,,,, mine has a 5-4 problem... And has been terrible since I bought it.... 2 new valve bodies installed and various other attempted fixes.... No one knows whats next or when I may see my Jeep again, or if anything they are trying will fix this..... Called a Lemon Law attorney today, may end up going that route.... Like someone said the trans in my Hemi Ram 1500 was just great..... Like the SRT jeep, but this is getting to be unacceptable

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

I HAVE to believe we are minority in the group of 2015 SRT owners. Any clue how many have been sold so far? I mean I know they are no stranger to massive QC debacles (Cherokee 9-speed springs to mind), but honestly I find it hard to believe they could ALL have problems like this.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

Holy crap! That's a list. I'm feeling better now. Lol. All kidding aside that's terrible. Mine stated again last Sunday it had about 2002 miles on it when it had a relapse of there 6-5 clunk(and yes it also jerks) so that means it went about 400 miles on this tranny before it started acting up again. I call my case worker mentioned a buy back. She said that's something I'd have to take up with my dealer and that she wasn't allow to comment on it. So of to the dealership I went to speak to my service department and they told me to bring it back on Monday so they could confirm my problems. Sigh. I have no idea where it will go from there because my service manager would not come out and talk to me. I'm going to call my case worker tomorrow morning and inform her of my upcoming appointment. I'm at a loss for words really. So so disappointed, I really thought my SRT was fixed, but it seems to be relapsing. I drove it in the salt today, so that just shows the shine is off the apple for me.

Have they seen any improvement at all after doing all that. It was like someone flicked a switch with mine and it went back to its old habits. I'm wonder again if it's just in the programming somewhere. It almost like it does its learning procedure then bam! Back to the clunky down shift. Now I just have to wait for the vibration to come back. Good lord.

I am going to ask if my contact is able to help you even though you are outside of CA...you deserve some good service for a change. I am kind of at a loss for words now know they're going to replace my transmission and it's very unlikely to fix the issue permanently.

I don't see how the software could cause the mechanical sounding clunking noise, but I agree the harshness has to be software...the transmission is functionally identical to the unit in the Ram 1500's! And several including myself have noted how smooth the 8HP70 is when installed in those trucks.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

I'll take whatever I can get. The tranny just seems confused as to what rpm to shift at. Like the line pressure in the tranny is all wrong for the shift. I don't know it's like it's missing a rev match if you know what I'm saying. I want to go drive a ram with the 8 speed so I know I'm not crazy.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

Just got a call from my dealer telling me my SRT is ready for pick up, advised that the reason they could not get the software to work with my new trans valve body ended up being a problem with their hand held programmer, and not my jeep... Advised everything is good now, will see tomorrow, keeping my fingers crossed, probably a little pray wouldn't hurt either!!!!!

The first visit involved replacing the transmission valve body which did nothing to improve the problems the second visit was to make sure all software was up to date and to tell me that all Jeep SRT's have this clunk and that it's a normal condition for this vehicle. I'm just not buying it. Why would it only do this on a 6-5 downshift?

Please help my reaffirm to myself that I'm not crazy and that this is NOT a normal condition.

I'm hoping that this Chrysler field tech brings a fresh opinion to my dealer service department and does not suffer from the "they all do this" mentality.

Mate I have the same problem and I keep telling them that "the clunk wasn't an option" I asked for. Bottom line they have no idea and it's unacceptable on a vehicle worth this much, if it's known fault then find a fix and do a recall.

Re: Clunk/thunk on 6-5 coasting downshift.

VBSRT,
Mine is a 2014, and I have had similar problems, first with all down shifts, then after a new valve body, it became more of a 5-4 downshift problem, I only get a clunk at very low speed down shifts usually in the 4-3, 3-2 range like when i'm going down a ramp in a large parking garage.... I will find out tomorrow if a second new valve body and a new TSB software update has fixed it as my dealer is now claiming.... Good luck with your 2015
