I called SRT this morning and finally got an appointment at an SRT/Viper certified dealership. I still have hope.

Best of Luck at the new dealership, but I really think that there currently is no real fix fir these transmissions as yet.... But hopefully I'm wrong

Drivetrain "clunk" noise - 2014 wk2 srt

Just went for a ride with the new dealerships service manager. He can't believe anyone would think this is normal or acceptable. He wouldn't accept this in a $20k car. He also doesn't feel like it's in the transmission at all. He's thinking that it's in the rear end or rear suspension. I took him on a 10 minute drive and it did it no less than 50 times. He didn't even need to drive because the problem was so obvious to him. He's going to call my district manager and inform her that "yes" there is still a problem with this vehicle. The bad part is they can't get it in until the middle of next week, but I'm just going to leave it anyway. Finally someone isn't pushing this off as normal. Also they are going to see about replacing both front headlights due to the moisture in them. We'll see...

Re: Drivetrain "clunk" noise - 2014 wk2 srt

I have news as well...I got back from a trip today and picked up the Jeep (they also had to replace the steering wheel...another story). At this point I am only really using this Jeep as a testbed to determine whether the tranny issue CAN be fixed, as it has so many other issues I'm going to get it repurchased eventually anyway. However if the tranny issue is sorted I will get another Jeep SRT, despite all the problems I like them that much.

So, the FCA engineer looked at the car and determined that this was likely a characteristic of the vehicle at this time, and believes the upcoming software update (~1 month) should address the jerking issue. In the meantime he and I discussed that he should leave the battery unhooked and let the TCM completely reset to restart the "learning" process. This was done prior to me picking up the car.

When I started driving the car it had already been warmed up pretty well (it was also warm here, in the 80's), tranny was ~160F. On the way home, I had several opportunities to coast/brake gently to a stop. I can report there was NO, ZERO jerk from 6-5 or in any other gear, literally it was impossible to tell it had downshifted without looking at the indicator in the cluster. This was the case at least 4 or 5 times on the way home. However, by the time I got home I noticed it had started to get a little rough on the 6-5 shift (tranny was ~200F at this point), but I still hadn't started hearing the clunk yet.

This leads me to believe the transmission IS mechanically capable of a very smooth shift, and lends credence to the idea that a software update could resolve the issue.

In short, there's hope boys...I'm ready to stay the course and at least remain open to ordering another one of these if they can get the software right.. Without this critical issue, it's a great vehicle, even with the other problems I've experienced which I believe mostly to be flukes or relatively minor/fixable.

Drivetrain "clunk" noise - 2014 wk2 srt

I'm telling you I have the solution right here. Just turn the switch to off when you put her to bed at night. Then in the morning rotate it back to on and off you go.

It even matches the brake calipers.

Anyone with further updates? My 2014 threw a code and went into transmission limp Thursday. Flat bedded into deal and #8 gear was sticking in valve body. Chrysler ok'd racing the valve body and the transmission was wonderful when I picked it up. About 30 miles later the thunk is back in 6-5 so I'm trying to figure out the next step.

1. Apply software update - no change
2. Installed new drive shaft - no change
3. Installed new differential and differential mounts - no change
4. Installed new control arm - no change
5. Installed new transfer case - FIXED!!

They finally had an expert mechanic from Chrysler come out and take a look at it - he was the one that recommended the transfer case replacement.

The waiting was the worst part, but glad to have it back and the noise gone.
Wow this is great news, somehow I missed this post. Mine has been clunking since the day I brought it home, too bad I didn't hear it on the test drive. I think I'm ready to take mine to the dealership and request they replace the transfer case and apply the newest software update.
Anyone know of a good dealership around the Portland, OR area that won't jerk ya around too bad?

I think until you see someone with the identical symptoms like me and JS with the 6-5 clunk find a fix, there really isn't a solution that's proven. I think between JS and I, the only thing that WASN'T replaced was the transfer case, however...which is pretty ironic since that did seem to fix a clunk on phinam's, although his symptomology was a little different than ours, which wasn't speed related.

Very true sir.
But,.....I wonder if that would have been the answer? I wonder why they skipped over the transfer case and not replace it on yours?

Frankly because it was clear they had no idea what to do to fix our issue...they were just throwing parts at it, starting with the transmission...both JS and I ran into lemon law before they got to the transfer case, and they kind of lose interest in parts-throwing once they know the car is getting bought back.

Re: Drivetrain "clunk" noise - 2014 wk2 srt

I tried zeroing in on the clunk noise while having my girlfriend drive me around. When sitting in the front seat it sounds like the clunk is behind you. Now while sitting in the back seat it sounds like its in front of you just in front of your feet. I then drove and had my girlfriend try sitting in front and back, she had the same conclusion.

This is in no way scientific or anything but thats what we were able to come up with. I looked underneath today just see what is in that area and found that's where the transfer case was located almost dead on.
