Rlarsen is exactly right. My service managers next step was the replacement of the transfer case, but having had enough of my vehicle being torn apart and its value diminished, I hit Chrysler with the lemon law letter before they started the differential and axle replacement. When that didn't fix the problem, it was game over. I think at that point my vehicle had been at the dealership a total of 52 days and that doesn't include the 5 days it was back in for subsequent repairs to the leaky diff and another trip for improperly installed parking brake cable. Out of curiosity I'd like to know if the transfer case was the problem, but honestly I'd rather just have a fresh start with a new SRT.

Hey Larsen how's your replacement coming along? Did you find a Red Vapor? I'm hearing the middle of May for my new Billet Silver.

I am having the same problem, I always play my music fairly loud so I did not notice this until I was stuck in traffic the other day, car was doing a lot of upshifting and downshifting due to the traffic... Only 400 miles on my 2015, With the music at a normal level this is super annoying.

Scanned the thread and so far it sounds like there is no definite fix for this?

In a word, "nope". Hate to be so negative, but they definitely have no certain resolution. I would recommend starting with the transfer case though, as pretty much none of the other pieces of the drivetrain being replaced fixed the issue, nor has the most recent transmission software.

JS, I did end up buying an out of state Red Vapor, it should be getting shipped this week I would expect. It has a November build date so I'm definitely playing with fire, but that state's lemon laws are also pretty forgiving like California, so the cycle can begin anew if necessary...

I am really hoping someone can nail it down to transfer case...because I suspect that's a relatively easy swap and wouldn't leave as much lingering doubt about the reassembly of the vehicle like a trans swap.

I would really like to know if it is the transfer case too, in case this problem does come up for me or anyone else. That way, instead of tearing the whole drive line apart, start there.

Good luck RLARSON462 with the new Jeep. I hope it works out for you.

1. Apply software update - no change
2. Installed new drive shaft - no change
3. Installed new differential and differential mounts - no change
4. Installed new control arm - no change
5. Installed new transfer case - FIXED!!

They finally had an expert mechanic from Chrysler come out and take a look at it - he was the one that recommended the transfer case replacement.

The waiting was the worst part, but glad to have it back and the noise gone.
Curious to know if you've experienced the clunk at all since the new transfer case?

It has been hit and miss. Was good for about 3 weeks and then came back for several weeks and then was gone again. Could never locate why it comes and goes. I had a new after market exhaust system installed which has made the car a bit louder and since then I have never heard the clunk. I doubt it's gone entirely, but the exhaust is loud enough that I don't ever hear the clunk anymore. Probably not the answer people want, but it honestly hasn't even entered my mind since then.

If you have your old man in the back just check his false teeth are not loose , they do clunk sometimes due to the G force

Re: Drivetrain "clunk" noise - 2014 wk2 srt

Hi all, first post here and reason is due to the dreaded 6-5-4 clunk. New Jeep 2 months ago, had it for 2 days when I noticed the 6-5-4 clunk, straight back to dealer, software update, fixed for couple days...which is bizarre as if it was a mechanical part fault I would have though software wouldn't have fixed?

Another software update, oil change and attempt to relearn the box...no luck. Keep them flew a brand new gearbox into New Zealand and installed it...have had it a week, was good first couple days then...when backing off the dreaded 6th to 5th clink noise came back...

Ruined the experience of new vehicle, have just done 2,000 k's of which dealer had done 500k's of and out of the 3 months since I purchased it they have had it over 80% of the time...

Not sure of the next plan...it's a great vehicle except for this but at the price tag you have to be 110% satisfied...back to the dealer I'm thinking...

Re: Drivetrain "clunk" noise - 2014 wk2 srt

I just traded my 2013 SRT (MY2014) for new 2015 SRT. 11km on the odo and I suffered from the dreaded 6-5-4 clunk. I disconnected the battery for 30mim to install a GPS tracker/immobiliser then noticed the 6-5-4 clunk was gone! I Now have 215km on the odo and the dreaded 6-5-4 clunk is back.
My previous SRT (also 8spd) was silky smooth and never had any problems.
I think it is a software issue where by the engine needs more revs to sync with the transmission on the down shift. Or the transmission is down shifting too early.
Either way I hope there is a solution soon.

Transfer case. That's where I'd start.
