Re: Drivetrain "clunk" noise - 2014 wk2 srt

To begin, I realize that mine is a 3.6L and has a different transmission from yours.

I had problems with harsh 2-1 downshifts and 2-3 upshifts. I believe the dealer applied the transmission relearn procedure. It immediately took care of the harsh 2-3 upshifts but did nothing for the harsh 2-1 downshifts.

I put between 300-350 miles on it after the update. One day, it dawned on me that the harsh 2-1 downshifting was no longer there. It just disappeared as mysteriously as it started. I've put maybe another 1200 miles on it since and I have no more harsh shifting between any gears. So far, so good.

That's not to say that the harsh shifting is permanently fixed and couldn't one day return. But the update did work... it just took a few hundred miles for the transmission to relearn. So don't give up on it yet.

I would like nothing more than to have it be a software issue. The last thing I want is to have my new jeep dissected. I've been trying to put some miles on it every chance I get in hopes that it heals itself. I guess I'm looking for slowly improving shifts, but it sounds like yours was like flicking a switch. I've got about 500 miles on mine since they installed the latest update and have lost faith that it will heal itself.

My service manager said that there are very few parts in this transmission that Chrysler will replace and that they usually just send a box with a whole new transmission. Sounded good to me, but getting them to that point is probably going to be a battle.

My '15 has a build date in early September. I know what u mean about not wanting them to go replacing parts on a brand new vehicle.

My 15' is September as well. The funny thing is I chose it over the two 14's on the lot because I figure any trans issues would be already taken care of.

Re: Drivetrain "clunk" noise - 2014 wk2 srt

*Update*

I didn't hear back from my dealer service manager last week Wednesday like promised. So I stop in to check on the progress. The manager was supposedly in a meeting and couldn't talk to me, however the service writer was able to call him on the phone twice to express my desire to speak with him. He told the writer he'd call me before the end of the day. He ends up emailing me telling me that the factories are basically closed right now and that the Tech from Detroit probably wouldn't get back to him before the 5th of January. He also finally emailed me a copy of the last service invoice which I'll include. A couple of things I'm not happy with in the notes section.

1) They are stating that the drove the other SRT in their inventory which is a 2014 and the service manager admitted to me he didn't drive.

2) They are stating that they both drive the same which to me means they are trying to convince me that this condition is normal. This "normal" clunk did not start for me until I had put about 250 miles on the vehicle.

Currently there is 1200 miles on my SRT and the 6-5 slowing downshift is not improving. If fact I feel it's worsening. It seems to clunk down into 5th then with slight throttle input it clunks again on acceleration. I just can't believe that anyone would consider this normal.

Will update again after the 5th for anyone who may have the same problem now or in the future.

Re: Drivetrain "clunk" noise - 2014 wk2 srt

Hope they get it worked out for you soon. That was my only issue with my 20k miles of ownership (and the jeep service departments)

Have you tried to pull the negative terminal on the battery to reset everything. That did wonders for mine

Re: Drivetrain "clunk" noise - 2014 wk2 srt

I disconnected the battery and pumped the brakes to discharge any juice the the capacitors as instructed either here or on another forum and left it over night before reconnecting the battery. Unfortunately it didn't change anything. I really am feeling like it something mechanical inside the transmission or torque converter. I noticed yesterday that at around 55-62 mph the converter goes in and out of lock up(at steady speed flat road)a lot and has some bad harmonics going on. Also the trans temp gauge is reading right around 200 degrees with regular un-spirited driving. Does this seem like too high a temp? I'm starting to sound like a chronic complainer, but this trans clunk has me ultra sensitive to what's going on with it.

I'm really hoping I don't have to fight my way out of the "they all do that" pit. I have a feeling that's where this is headed.

This is an.adaptive transmission. After resetting go out and drive it hard and be aggressive. Take it on some twisties, use launch control, drive it like you stole it as the old saying goes. This is a.performance vehicle...dont baby it. Drive it in sport mode, track.....have fun ! See how that goes.

I'm trying this on my '15 srt now. Just pulled the negative and will reconnect tomorrow morning. Hoping it's a fix

Re: Drivetrain "clunk" noise - 2014 wk2 srt

I've done the battery disconnect and driven it like I stole it too no avail. From other posts I've read the battery disconnect is a temporary fix at best.

Here is the response from my dealer's service manager that I received after I inquired about the progress on my case

"Not really but I did talk with him again today regarding it. Since the holiday break he has been primarily on the road making service calls to dealers. He was heading back down to the factory and going to see what he can find out. He hadnít had much communication with anyone since before Christmas when I asked him about it. I will stay on him and let you know what I hear."

I'm glad they might fix my jeep at their own pace. I feel valued. Anyone got any suggestion where to go with this to light a fire under someone's butt. Call Chrysler? Call an attorney? This has been going on over a month now.
