I've been hesitant to bring it up with the dealer because they have screwed up my previous grand Cherokees with software updates, creating new issues following each "update."

I reconnected the negative terminal this morning and drove to work and have to say so far it is significantly better and i don't have the 6-5 clunk at all. Will see how it holds together. I'm hopeful.

Please let me know if it fixes the problem. I've been on the Ram truck forum and the other jeep forum and it has been my understanding that it only brings temporary relief. I hope for your sake it's a permanent fix.

Sure will. Hope it does as I'm not eager for any of these updates that seem to fix one thing but glitch out something new!!

Drivetrain "clunk" noise - 2014 wk2 srt

In case it works out for you I've been working on a little concept. It requires no software updates and even incorporates the ability to run a dual battery setup. Genius if I do say so myself. No more having to take the time to manually disconnect the battery when the tranny starts acting up. A couple words of caution, do not move the switch while the engine is running, I'm not sure why, but it says so on the switch.

*Chrysler please feel free to incorporate this into future vehicles. You may contact me by PM if you can't figure out how to wire it in. I'm sure it can be used in models across the board. Your welcome.

Re: Drivetrain "clunk" noise - 2014 wk2 srt

So I took delivery of a 15 SRT on Sunday and I'm pretty sure I can identify what you guys are talking about as a hard(er) downshift from 6-5, at least in D & S mode (doesn't seem to do it when paddling).

That said, although I notice it's a little bit of an extra jerk, I'm guessing either it's less severe than what some of you guys are reporting, or to me personally it's not as big of a deal. I am used to powerful, performance oriented vehicles having some "roughness" to them...the Audi RS5 I gave up (not enough seats) to move to the Jeep had a dual-clutch style "automatic" (really a manual with a mechanical shifting system). That thing would drive you guys crazy if this 6-5 bump is bothering you, but I freely admit it may be more minor in mine and I definitely don't notice any noise or clunk associated with it.

Maybe it's my inexperience with true automatics, but are automatics supposed to be 100% smooth when transitioning between gears? Because it seems to me even low-performance vehicles with automatics aren't totally smooth shifting unless it's a CVT or something.

You would notice the 6-5 I'm talking about. In fact several passengers have asked me if the srt is a manual transmission. The beast literally surged forward downshifting 6-5 unless u slammed the brakes.

Since disconnecting the negative terminal and letting sit overnight mine so far is significantly better

Re: Drivetrain "clunk" noise - 2014 wk2 srt

I've never had an automatic that clunks into a lower gear while coming to a stop. Ever. And I've had two cars with shift kits installed. I don't mined a firm up shift, but when your coming to a stop trying to stop smoothly and the transmission clunks so hard that your brake foot stabs the pedal creating the vehicle to jerk even more, it's Fing maddening. Also if I'm in manual mode and I'm holding the throttle steady in sixth gear then downshift into fifth while holding the throttle steady I get the clunk again. Only on that 6-5 downshift. All the rest are smooth for the most part.

I'm thinking I'll try the disconnect again, it's just sitting in the garage now anyways. Too much salt on the roads.

Mine is only 2 weeks old and I'm hearing a clunk when downshifting and when I press the accelerator in low gears. The dealership wants to take it next week. By looking at this they will probably do more harm than good. Australia has probably less experience with these cars than us dealerships

Mine had around 250 miles on it when it started doing it. Good luck. My service manager told me there aren't very many parts on the transmission Chrysler will replace. He said that they would just replace the whole tranny. It getting them to that point that's going to be a struggle. I've already had my valve body replace and it didn't change a thing.

Re: Drivetrain "clunk" noise - 2014 wk2 srt

Hmmm...so I've driven it a little more and it's clear that the 6-5 shift definitely behaves differently for some reason, but in mine it's definitely not to the level of severity of a surge or something that requires additional braking.

What I've noticed is that under slow deceleration, there is a bit of a jerk on that downshift.

I also noticed if I'm beating on it a bit on the highway (getting it to a higher temp maybe?), the shift smooths out completely like the rest of the shifts. It only seems to exhibit the irregularity when it's first driven, and after it cools down from a little highway blasting.

I barely notice the jerk on the manual/paddle 6-5 shift because frankly all the upshifts and downshifts jerk a bit in the manual mode, which is fine with me because it also feels right to have a little bump when you're shifting it manually, in my mind.

In any case, I'm going to keep a close eye on it, if it gets worse I'll have to take the same steps you guys are I suppose.
