Engine Tick

I'm pretty sure I have the infamous engine tick issue. I just bought a new 2015 SRT which recently developed a very loud tick from the driver's side cylinder bank. The noise started at approximately 500 miles, and I'm at about 710. It's a consistent tick tick tick tick that happens on both cold and hot starts, and doesn't go away after driving. I broke the truck in as per the owner's manual, and it didn't make this sound when I first bought it. I took it to my local dealership and was told "there's nothing wrong at all, it's normal". When I asked him if it might be a lifter problem, the service writer just blew off the question, stating again that nothing was wrong. I'll try to post a video of the sound later on today, but there's no way it's normal for that loud of a tick to only come from one side of the engine. Any input or advice would be great.

I just got back from the dealer who again stated that the ticking noise is just from the injectors. This doesn't make sense to me as it's only coming from one cylinder bank. I called the SRT hotline and the rep confirmed with me that a ticking sound has nothing to do with injectors and to get a second opinion from another dealership.
Here's a quick video of the sound:

That does not sound like a lifter to me. Not sure what it is.

Another common cause of a "tick" is Exhaust Manifold (gasket or crack or even just loose).
If it was lifters it most likely would be both sides.
And if was injectors (which I've never heard of) it also would likely be both sides.

A exhaust manifold issue is commonly one side.

I think there are tricks to finding manifold leaks. Google it.

Either way. Just another example of how bad these dealers suck. OP bought Jeep's top of the line vehicle and the lack of service support is absurd. I drive 65 miles to get my SRT serviced by a dealer I trust - crazy considering I live in NJ and probably pass dozens of closer dealers on the way there. Anyway, I'd be annoyed if my brand new $70k+ vehicle sounded like that too.

If Jeep is really about to compete with the luxo brands with the Wagoneer it better step up its service experience or that venture will be short lived.

OP hope they get it fixed for you and you can enjoy your beast. It's really an awesome vehicle and a thrill to drive.

There were a few other small issues I had them look at, including my steering wheel being canted a few degrees to the right. The same service writer said they wouldn't fix it because the crowning of the road would make up for it. What a joke. I traded a 2013 GT500 for this Jeep; and I received nothing but stellar service from Ford no matter which dealership I went to. The first time I take my new truck to a Jeep dealer, I get treated like an idiot and am given a run around. Meh, end of rant. I'll see what another dealership says next week.

Wow that is loud. Hows the oil level? Still on the original oil? Have you pinpointed the sound to that valve cover? If not try using a stethoscope or a screw driver with your ear to it to see where its the loudest

This is the absurdity. He just spent $70k+ on a brand new vehicle with now just a few hundred miles on it. He shouldn't have to buy a surgical kit to "convince" the dealer something is not right. We also shouldn't have to bring in printed TSBs in order to get issues addressed.

OP my advice would be to find another dealer. It took me awhile but I finally found one (65 miles from my house!) that knows the product and is happy to do their job: service it.

UPDATE: So I took my truck to the new dealership twice, both times I was told by their service departments that the ticking is a normal noise inherent to the 6.4 Hemi. My service adviser had me listen to a 2017 GC SRT to hear that it makes the exact same noise. I acknowledged that the 2017 hadthe same tick, but not nearly as loud as mine. I also listened to a 2014 and 2015 GC SRT on my own and heard the noise, but again not nearly as loud. I was once again advised that there is nothing that can be done, not even changing the injectors to see if the noise will dissipate. The thing that gets me is that my SA and I heard my 2015 and their 2017 back-to-back, where the 2017 was much quieter, but he insisted that they were the same volume. Either way I'm at the point where I really don't feel like dealing with it anymore and I'll just end up living with it knowing that Chrysler is willing to sell a $70k vehicle that sounds akin to a beat, noisy Honda.
On a side note, Anna from JeepCares has been immensely helpful looking into my problem and providing me with timely, relevant updates. She definitely deserves praise.

I have a 15 Red Vapor edition that I'm sure wasn't broken in properly as it was a dealer demo with 5K on it when I got it. It does NOT sound like that. If this tick is "normal" I would wonder what this normal noise is from. I do have a 496 GM big block in a speed boat that has very noisy injectors and relays and even that doesn't sound like the video you posted.

I also have the same 6.4L motor in my 392 Challenger, doesn't sound like that either. Now the 5.7 in the Ram, has a tick if it sits for a few days. It goes away after 30 secs or so after cold start.

With all that being said, I do have an exhaust noise on a cold start in both my 6.4 motors that doesn't sound like a tick but a little bit like a very mild exhaust manifold leak. I don't think it is a really a leak, and I feel that it is a normal noise.

I have a wonderful dealer "Crown" in Dublin, Oh (20 mins from home). I drive by another dealer to get to them. The Service Advisor is the best I have had at any dealership. I left GM over crappy service writers and horrible service departments. I have better things to do than to "make up" issues and drag my car in to have a tech tell me, no problem found.

Crown has never done that to me. Had a dash rattle in the Ram that they stuck with until they fixed it. Never made me feel like it was my fault or my problem to live with.

BTW, the steering wheel a few degrees off is a known issue and Crown fixed mine for me, no questions.

And that's the issue. I've listened to six other GC SRTs from 2014-2017 and none of them sound as egregious as mine. I've been to two dealerships and had my case escalated to STAR and I keep being told that my noise is normal and I have to live with it. I honestly have no idea what to do about this. I feel like both dealerships started off thinking I was wrong and tried to prove that to me instead of trying to help me out.

Hello

This is my first jeep which i recently purchased. Its Jeep grand cherokee limited hemi. I had notice some strange noise specially after over night start. I showed it to mechanic and he said its not the lifter noise, either is belt or some pully.

The voice comes if i start after overnight or cold. It goes away when engine obtain the optimial temperature, oil pressure etc shows ok as well. I m confused what it could be.
