Exhaust and Suspension Issues

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum. I joined because I am having a bunch of annoying issues with my 2014 Jeep GC SRT.

The first which the dealership has not been able to resolve is the suspension. When I hit bumps, or take a right hand bend at 40-50 MPH I get a very obvious rattle coming from the front driver side suspension / wheel area. It sounds like tin cans banging around. Very annoying and every time I have had it at the dealership they "can't duplicate" the sound. Has anyone else had this issue and been able to diagnose it?

Second is the exhaust. The exhaust started making a squeaking noise whenever I hit the accelerator. I learned that this is probably the passive valves on the exhaust opening and closing when I rev the engine. Well the dealership replaced parts of the exhaust and now it sounds completely different. I am not sure if they pinned the valves open to shut me up or what they did. When accelerating at low RPMs and idling it has a much deeper sound. When coming off the gas and letting the RPMs drop it is aggressively loud. I also feel like it has lost some of the low end power.

Any help you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated. I have about 15k on it now and it has spent weeks in the shop without being able to resolve these issues.

Thanks,

Pat

Re: Exhaust and Suspension Issues

Hi Pat, sorry you're having these problems with an otherwise great vehicle. I had a similar suspension issue in the past around the same mileage as yours. Some on this forum have been diagnosed with faulty struts or strut mounts. The dealership I went to could not diagnose my problem either. Around that time, I had to change my brake pads and voila!, no more noise. It turns out the pads wore down enough that the space between them and rotor allowed enough movement for them to create that rattling noise I was hearing. That was my experience.

As for the exhaust, it sounds like yours were pinned in open mode. The deeper, throatier sound is a drawback (advantage, some would say) of not having baffles in the pipes.

Re: Exhaust and Suspension Issues

I had a very similar sound when I first got my car, and it was a different end result than Etsakpoe. In my case, the heat shield came loose and was vibrating against the car when making a hard turn, or going over bumps. It sounded loud and awful, just like tin cans. I hope that helps with whatever it turns out to be.

Thanks dmb4040! I am going to have them look into the heat shield. Sounds like mine is the same thing.

Re: Exhaust and Suspension Issues

I just noticed his a few weeks ago and only occurs over bumps (more washboard type) and seemingly getting worse. Getting ready to take in, but unless I can give them some direction, I have little faith they can ID/Fix. Thanks for the info above Fellas.
