Exclamation First Problem (and it's the Trans!)

I haven't posted much since getting my SRT8 in December as everything has been going just fine. I finally have something to contribute for you transmission folks!

Driving home from work on Thursday night I exited the e-way after 15 minutes of driving. Driving through a couple stop and goes the check engine light comes on. Then as the truck hit 4th gear a complete loss of acceleration. The trucked revved but no power from transmission. It said it was in drive but it acted like neutral. I used the paddle shifters and downshifted to second or third and regained momentum. I limped home manually shifting not allowing it to hit 4th. Also,(after about 5 mins in limp) the FCW, traction control, and the Serv 4WD came on.

Made it to the dealer Friday morning having the same issue, except for after getting off the e-way I could not shift past 1st. Luckily the dealer is only about 10 blocks off.
Dealer could not look at truck until Monday. They said at first it was engine power loss. Then it was isolated to a transmission issue. Now on Tuesday evening I was starting to get impatient, and they said that it is Chrysler engineering taking it very slow. They said any major component warranty work must go through Chrysler engineering support and they are not sure if this trans type is locked from them being allowed to work on it. On Wednesday the dealer said Chrysler had them remove oil pan to check for debris. None found. I called this afternoon and they said Chrysler has not responded with what to do.

Meanwhile I have this POS rental. We’ll see if I get charged for that, they said they would try and get me some "reflief". The poor customer service posts prior to buying the truck that I have read on JG is starting to haunt me.
Anyone else seen this?

The pic is from Friday morning, stuck in first.

Re: First Problem (and it's the Trans!)

This has not happened to me but it did happen to my buddy.

He picked up the jeep first thing in the morning. He went to a golf tournament about 20 miles and parked for about 5 hours. After the tournament he started the truck and it did exactly what you described. It went into all the gears but it would not move, it acted like it was in neutral. The jeep had 70 km on it.

The dealership had it towed back and they ended up replacing the entire transmission. I do not know what the problem is and my buddy was not happy and all he said was the tranny was f*&ked.

I feel for you. My 2012 GCSRT8 build date was 2/18/12. After 3 weeks of taking delivery, it sure sounds like the same exact thing happen to me. I went back and reviewed the picture of the instrument lights that came on and they are the same as yours. When this happened I called the SRT TEAM (855-778-8326) and they took it from there calling the dealer and getting involved. My Jeep was towed to a local dealer the next morning and they found the transmission cooler line was not connected (only had 246 miles at that time - now has 10,100 with no issues). While I was assured there was no damage to the transmission, it still crosses my mind. Regardless, this is one nice truck and I feel fortunate to own and drive it. Good luck and keep us posted on how you make out.

Re: First Problem (and it's the Trans!)

Wow, thanks for your input. I will mention that to the dealer next time I talk to them!

However, I wish my issue was as easily solved as yours. Going on day 13 now. It seems that Chrysler gives the dealer some small task to check, and then chrysler enginerring responds the next day with the next small task. None of these tasks have found or even indicated a problem. So it is taking forever. They still haven't gotten inside the transmission yet to check for internal issues. WTF Chrysler? My warranty might be up by the time I get it back!

Feels good to vent!

Re: First Problem (and it's the Trans!)

Please dont take this the wrong way but everyone has the chance to get a service contract (even a maintenance contract) and those offer rental. Again dont take that the wrong way but they may look at it that way. Also with being such a new/latest technology issue the dealer has ZERO authorization to order parts, most will be on an "order restriction". Be patient, you bought a 50k car and they will fix it, It just takes time.

Re: First Problem (and it's the Trans!)

Absolutely Duff. That last part was definitely tongue in cheek. But how long is someone expected to wait patiently with a warranty? What is the standard time period to fix a transmission? I ask them and they have no answers. Why should I purchase rental insurance from Chrysler when any issue under warranty should be fixed in a timely manner? I bet if the truck was not under warranty the dealer would have told me that the transmission is shot and we could have it replaced within 3-5 days, we just need your credit card number. It seems that if Chrysler is footing the bill, then hey, we are going to take our sweet time and try every avenue not to spend an additional penny. What else am I to think?

I would just love to hear someone say, "Yes, it takes every one of our customers 3-4 weeks to fix a transmission issue." I don’t believe that is the case though. Outside of that, I think Chrysler is dragging their feet. Everyone should know this. I put in a complaint with SRT group. I was promised a phone call or email within 48 hours with an explanation along with a time frame. That was on Monday and still nothing.

I am driving out to the SRT Track Experience that came with the purchase of the vehicle this Monday. Sadly I have to make the 2 hour drive in my rental. Damn I miss my truck!

Thanks for your input and views. Seriously, much appreciated!!

Re: First Problem (and it's the Trans!)

I'm in a way you are right but if its on your dollar the re,unplugged has been out for at least two years. They diagnose and repair, no need for further testing digital pre-authorization so its tough. Its hard but it takes time, trust me they want nothing but to get your car fixed. If you really need a ride call 1 800 992 1997 [I think] state your case and they will step up.

Very sorry about your trouble!

Drove my wife's car to my first track experience in 2007, was rear ended and my '06 was in the shop though, not my fault unless not hitting the car in front was an option. The track experience will definitely make you forget about it until you get back in the car to drive home..

Just be glad they don't have to ship in a new trans from Germany via boat, had that happen on my RS6!

3 questions:
Is this dealer the one you bought the vehicle from?
Are they SRT Authorized? (I think this is a new thing)
Have you called the SRT hotline?

This is not the dealer I bought it from. The dealer I bought it from is almost 4 hours away, so that is not an option.

I doubt they are SRT authorized, but I'm not sure how to check that.

I have called the SRT hotline and put in a complaint however that, so far, has led nowhere.

Going on day 19 now... The dealer told me Thursday that Chrysler is sending new parts, something to do with how the hydraulics/valves are controlled. Should have been received and installed today.

Advisor is off today and is supposed to update me tomorrow on how that went.

Finding a good dealer is very difficult, in theory it should be easier now than it was a few years back.

If I were you I'd be tempted to send out some tweets to the SRT folks, maybe that will shake something loose.

Re: First Problem (and it's the Trans!)

So I realize the last post you had here was in April, but care to elaborate on what the issue ended up being? Mine is not an SRT8, just the 5.7 Overland, but last week mine had roughly the same issue. I was coasting to a stoplight when all of those same lights came on. I distinctly remember the FCW Off and mine also said ACC (cruise) disabled. Since then, I have extremely low torque upon heavy acceleration. Mine shifts fine, but for example, from a standing still position, full throttle, the RPMs quite slowly climb. It has less torque then my 4 cylinder Subaru Legacy. I'm very frustrated, I drive a lot and it's a bit dangerous when you don't have good acceleration. So far, been to dealership twice, they test drive it and say yes, something is wrong, but now they say there are no engine codes and have no idea where to start. When you ha these issues, were they able to pull codes from the PCM?

Meanwhile my truck drive like crap! It took them 6 months to replace my sunroof, wonder how bad this will be.

This is my 5th GC, and I'm starting to regret my decision. "the things we make, make us" statement isn't looking good.
