Noisy lifters??

Hi all, has anyone experienced noises lifers? My 2014 has twice made a lot of liter noise and both times straight after a start up after a short drive?

Are you talking about a ticking noise?

Re: Noisy lifters??

Mine does on occasion right at startup, after sitting overnight. It's a lot more than a ticking sound and lasts 3-5 seconds.

Re: Noisy lifters??

Yes more a valve train rocker noise but sounds like a lifter.

Re: Noisy lifters??

Could be the infamous "hemi tick". What engine oil are you using?

Whut engine?
How many miles?
What oil?

Does it go away in about 5 seconds? The hemi seems to like to chatter to itself a bit on startup. Doesn't seem to be hurting anything.

Prolonged noise I'd probably be a tad more concerned about.

Re: Noisy lifters??

I am assuming the OP is running a 6.4L Hemi on the OEM factory oil fill which should be some formulation of Pennzoil 0W-40.

A member or two on this very forum have made comments regarding engine noises and even CEL codes when running just shy of 5000 miles on the original factory fill. So I am curious to know how many miles do you currently have while running the factory supplied oil?

I like with many folks run SRT branded Pennzoil Ultra in 0W-40 in our subsequent engine oil changes. However see my other post on Pennzoil Ultra Platinum w/ Pureplust Technology regarding the newer replacement Pennzoil 0W-40 that will be the next factory recommended oil that I will plan on running once I use up my current stash of "SRT" oil.

Knowing that "Hemi Tick" might be an issue for me in the future, I have kept an eye on this product that I was thinking of using.

Liqui Moly 2009 Anti-Friction Oil Treatment - 300 ml
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003U4O414...HHWH3D?ie=UTF8

I would probably go for an oil change with either the Pennzoil Ultra "SRT" or even better, the "Ultra Platinum" oil and see if that takes care of your issue and go from there.

Mine ticks at startup then calms down but you can still hear valve train noise. A friend of mine told me that the full length headers I have on probably make it more apparent. I don't know if putting on aftermarket headers amplified the sound of the valve train or not. I did take it back to the dealer to have it looked at for a possible header leak and it's fine. Service guy said she is running normal.
