P0205 Cylinder 5 injector code thrown

Bit of read here folks…..but looking to see if anyone else ever experience this.

2015 SRT with 5800km on ODO.

First service done days before with no more than 20 kms on it since.

So I load up the Thule, Jeep, and little family to go up to the family cottage, which is about a 7 hour drive North. We met up with my sister and her nubby to convoy together after the first hour. So we are cruising at Hwy speed (maybe 115kms/hr) 1.5 hrs in. The check engine light illuminates. No noticeable changes in driving behaviour. I immediately run the diagnostics and the jeep gives a message of (P0205 cylinder 5 injector) and thats it.

My wife googles the code for our jeep and immediately found someone that had the same thing but not much info. This guy had the code thrown intermittently. Search results from what appeared to be OEM trouble shooting stated anything from bad injector which causes rough idle to something as simple as a sensor or loose wiring. Apparently rare occurrence.

I decided to continue on for a bit (20mins) and ran the diagnostics 3 more times, and the jeep first query was the same result, then the following two nothing, no codes. Check engine light still illuminated. Jeep driving normal. I continue for another 45 mins, apply 3/4 throttle (downshifts a couple gears) going up a hill in passing lane, and the engine immediately reduces throttle, almost like it prevented anything above 3000-3500 rpm. It sounded like the engine was greatly retarded with a noise I haven't heard before. Obviously it was doing this to prevent any possible damage. I immediately let off and try again and the same thing. I pulled over at top of hill rest area. Jeep sounded normal, and idled normally. Throttle blipped and sounded normal. The wife and daughter went and sat in my sisters vehicle while I ran the diagnostics again. No results. Pop hood and everything looked normal, nothing out of the ordinary. Turn off jeep and tell my sister and her hubby, that we are probably done, and should probably turn around before we get too far out of the service area.

Then I said, ok Im going to go up the Hwy for a quick test drive again. So I start up the jeep, everything sounds and behaves normal. Exit back onto the Hwy and apply about 2/3 throttle. Everything normal. Go through the gears a few times. Everything normal. Apply heavy throttle and run through the gears, and no issues. Everything normal. Run the diagnostics again, and no codes or messages. I am lost for words. Decide to continue on with family to cottage. At least we have my sister and hubby following so if something should happen or jeep goes into limp mode we have help. The remaining 4-5+ hours drive everything appears normal. Hard throttle applications throughout drive and jeep has normal driving behaviour. I am about 1hr drive from a Jeep dealer where we are. Will be calling tomorrow and see if they can take a look. So much for a relaxing week off.

Anyone have this issue before?

Re: P0205 Cylinder 5 injector code thrown

Jeep sat for the week at the lake…..started it up and no check engine light, no codes. Drove home for 7 hours, jeep performed flawlessly, check engine light remained off. Once arrived at home, I checked for codes again, and now displayed "P0205 Fuel Injector Circuit 5 open, & P0206 Fuel Injector Circuit 6 open." Appointment is for Wednesday.

Re: P0205 Cylinder 5 injector code thrown

Just got back from dealership…..codes logged were recorded, but nothing came up wrong with anything….they basically reset, and did 2 updates….one for the PCM and the other it first trans update. Service guy initial thought was possibly bad fuel or something cause the injector to throw a code, as they could not find anything wrong. Will just have to keep driving it and see if it re-occurs.

On another note, my jeep hardly did the 6-5 clunk, and specially in the last few months, as it seems to be getting better on its own…..initial driving after new update is that it is definitely smoother shifting in auto mode….6-5 downshift is smooth as it should be….will have to wait and see if trans learns or changes down the road..

The hwy trip was great in this beast…..I love this ride more than ever…so happy I upgraded from the 2010.
