Rear hatch not opening fully

I have a weird issue.

I park my jeep in the garage. When I open the trunk while in the garage I'm concerned that the gate will touch my garage door if fully opened and scratch the paint, so I've manually stopped it from fully opening.

It seems it got stuck though.

Now when I press the buttons or rear handle to open it releases the lock and starts opening, then immediately gets stuck about 2" open and I get three furious angry beeps. I don't think it's broken, it sounds like it's hitting up against vacuum while trying to open...

I've not taken it to the dealer. To be honest I don't mind it at all but I'm curious if there's a way to reset the motor so that it starts operating like it should be. I know these jeeps have a sensor built in so that when they hit something while opening or closing they back up and I think I somehow messed up the system.

Obviously next time I'm in a dealer I'll ask, but I'm curious if anyone here has encountered this problem and knows how to work around it?

Thanks in advance!

Also is there a way to disconnect the automatic open/close system completely, I'd much rather normally operate the rear gate manually due to most frequently needing access to the trunk while in my garage...

Niva you can put the lift gate in manual mode by pulling liftgate handle once, after gate startes too open pull handle two more times to engage manual mode.after that lift or lower at will!

Radbushi, Gate will go back to auto mode after you close gate. also keep in mind IF you hit any gate button to close and the gate is only 3/4 open, like if your in your garage it may resume going up! So close manual if your under low clearance.

Re: Rear hatch not opening fully

Cherryred, thanks a bunch for the info about engaging manual mode.

It seems like I'm permanently stuck in it, I guess next time I'm at the dealer I'll make sure to point out the rear motor and see what they'll do about it. Some of these features are cool but annoying at the same time, more things can break

Re: Rear hatch not opening fully

Niva, forget about the fuse that was a brain fart. I get three beeps when i grab hatch handle and doors are locked.

I wonder if you open rear gate outside of garage too full open[manual if needed] then close with the inside side button.then try to open with the overhead console button.
If it does't reset then it looks like a dealer fix.i see there is two TSB's,one on the 2011 and one on the 2012 for rear hatch not opening, none on 14 as of yet but its a easy fix. good luck

Re: Rear hatch not opening fully

Hey I appreciate the advice, it's a good idea to try. I'll have some time this weekend to find the correct fuse, it won't hurt. It will be weeks before I need to take Moby to the dealer. If it does work I'll report here.
