Slight whine?

Hey Guys,

I've noticed slight whine coming from what sounds like the front of the Jeep under load. It almost sounds like a gear drive. It's not super loud, I can only really hear it with the radio down completely. But wasn't sure if this was maybe the transfer case and full time 4wd or something I need to get looked at? Never had a 4wd before so not sure if this would be normal?

Re: Slight whine?

Bump... Hoping to avoid the local service department as long as possible. (heard some horror stories).

It's not super loud or anything but noticeable with the windows down and the radio off. Hoping it's just the sound of the full time 4wd and not something that's actually a problem??

Re: Slight whine?

Being this is an AWD performance car, I would expect it to be normal.
Only if it gets louder, should you start to worry.

Re: Slight whine?

I've got a little bit of a whine too, sounds like the worlds smallest supercharger. I just figured it was the belts or something, it's pretty mild.

Re: Slight whine?

Check the Intake. Had the same thing. Took it to the dealer and they confirmed. They scratched their head a bit and ended up replacing the intake. All good now

Re: Slight whine?

Thanks guys, will have them check the intake. I'm also hearing what sounds like a "click" when braking (right before I come to a full stop). Happens ~80% of the time. Just a single "click" that's not TOO loud but noticable.

In a related topic - anyone have a good relationship with a service manager in the LA area? I haven't been into the local dealer yet and I bought the car out of state. Haven't heard the best things about the service departments around here...
