Stone damage on rear doors

Has anyone come up with a FEASIBLE solution to the HORRIFIC stone damage that occurs on our back doors/rear wheel arch moldings from the front tires kicking rocks and debris up? Ridiculous!!!! The plastic sheeting is practically pink against my red vehicle, and of course the rockers and areas of the doors/moldings not covered in the protective plastic now need a respray. 10k miles, and already this?!?!

I'm guessing this is from the sticky tires, but come on, REALLY?!?! Every time I drive across asphalt now, I cringe a little.

I added a super low profile mudflap in front, hardly noticeable, but it isn't a fix-all, so crap is still getting kicked up. There has to be something aesthetically acceptable I can cover the leading edge of the rear rockers with, something that's the same color all the way through...

Use stone guard vinyl... I'm a signie once I get my jeep delivered I'm gonna create some protector packs.

Yeah... But the vinyl that's on mine from the factory is turning pink from the sandblasting it's getting... That stuff clearly doesn't work well for this.

It looks like I have over 150k miles with this stone damage... And the fact that they don't make what I'll call "stone flaps" for the front wheelwells is an absolute crime.

I take that back... I've had vehicles exceed 200k miles that haven't had stone damage like this. Ridiculous.

Yeah... I fit the most basic & plain POS lackluster flaps I could find, but mounted them higher so they wouldn't be quite as noticeable, but then, of course that impaired their ability to be completely useful.

I don't remember my '14 Summit having this problem, so I attribute this to the sticky Pirelli tires. I guess once the tires get swapped, I'll get something with a harder compound.

Here is my suggestion. I understand being OCD and the high cost of Jeeps these days. But unless you can put your Jeep in a glass/plastic bubble there is no way to keep your Jeep in perfect cosmetic condition. You worked plenty hard for it. Just go out and enjoy it. Stone chips or not, mud flaps or not you are still going to run into the idiot in a parking lot that is going to door ding you or run a shopping cart into you. I once saw in a car enthusiast magazine these inflatable things you were supposed to take out of your car, inflate, and hang all around your car every time you park it. If I had to go through all of that effort every time I took my Jeep out I wouldn't bother taking it out. It is like the guys on the other thread looking for the perfect Jeep at delivery. News Flash for you. It doesn't exist. Just be happy with the one you have, drive, and enjoy it. Too many of you spend too much time looking for problems and if they don't exist you create them.

That doesn't so much answer my question...

Nor does it remedy the cancer spreading as rust is forming inside those stone chips, or the way my rockers are turning PINK. Again, I say unacceptable. Need a feasible fix.

Yes, it does answer your question. While you are fretting over the inevitable I am out enjoying mine. And I live in Michigan with some pretty wicked winters and pot holes. You know the last vehicle I bought new and sold to buy my Jeep I kept 15 years. I kept a heavy coat of wax on it at all times. And even with living in Michigan winters it did not have one speck of rust on it when I sold it. Like the song says: Don't worry, Be happy. Just go out and drive your Jeep and enjoy it.

You could try one of the side step products that in conjunction with slush guards at least protect the back door area, especially if there is a flexible seal between the step & sill area which some do have. Worked on my previous 2 mitsu's, but probably not compatible with rock sliders!

My answer to this issue is going to be ordering some tires with a harder compound, then having the rockers painted.... I can think of no other way to remedy this.

New tires will still pick up stones and toss them against the new paint, I guarantee it. Just maybe not as quickly, but it's not the complete solution because I've used two sets of different tires, one AT and the other the stock Forteras, and they both pick up a lot of small stones.

I'd look into getting more XPEL film in that area, as suggested. I think that will still even start to show signs of wear eventually, but it will at least protect your paint.

Any pics of said damage area?
So I can see where to have Xpel put on mine.

BTW, I had Xpel put on my 13 GT500 (first time ever doing anything like this) it was EXPENSIVE but I have been blown away with how strong it is.
Had the whole: Hood, bumper, fenders, mirrors and lower rockers covered ($2,700) and not one imperfection.

While that might seem all nice and dandy, this vehicle has been 200MPH... in bug season.
Ok still not impressed? On my way to work one morning a vehicle ahead of me changed lanes on the highway, when they changed lanes they picked up a piece of REBAR that was in-between the 2 lanes and it through it at my vehicle.... No where to go, no way to avoid, traveling 70 MPH the damn thing hit flat at a 60 degree angle on the front bumper (super super pissed since I will admit I have done some dumb things on public roads with this car and would understand if during those times something happened then I brought it on myself... but not doing the speed limit, on a bright sunny day, and 6 car lengths behind the car in front of me) ah.. anyway that damn rebar smacked the bumper like it was its sole job in life... cracked the bumper itself in half... But not one damn nick or scratch in the paint!!!

So... Xpel is some tough shit

Here's a pic I took of the flare coming up, but if you look closely, you can see my paint turning pink. This was at 10k miles... I now have 20k miles, and it looks twice as bad. Red Vehicle door Automotive exterior Vehicle Bumper

Count me in for the same issue STCjpr, only difference is on a white SRT - it shows up as black chips. I was just thinking the other day how ridiculous this is, i have 14k - and the fenders look like they have 200k on them. Have never driven on a dirt road even once either.

Love my Jeep - but the fender flares leave a lot to be desired in the fit/finish area as well - already had to have one replaced as it was falling off after 5k.

No- the stock Pirellis are sticky as oufck, so stones stick to them. Bought some new Yokohamas, had the rockers painted, 5k miles later, no stone chips!
