So I have to go to the dealer in a few weeks for cosmetic issues, and am wondering if I need to say anything about my transmission down shifting from 6 to 5 rough while in auto. Researching the issue I am finding mixed reviews with some saying it's normal and others saying theirs do not do it. So I am asking 2015 owners, does yours have this issue? Thanks for any input!

It's not just the 15's. I had the same issues in my 14 and just had them resolved a few weeks ago with a trans flash at the dealership. Night and day difference in upshifts and no more horrible (try to throw you through the windshield) to smooth and buttery. :D
Mine downshifted rough from 6-5 ,4-3 and then 2 was the roughest.

my trans is fine as far as I am concerned....yeah, it's not as butter or "refined" as my '14 Summit Hemi (exact same trans) but I feel it is aligned with the performance aspect...it is predictable and pretty consistent so nothing stands out as a problem...fwiw, I do believe the '14 had/has a higher incidence of clunking/harshness in certain downshifts from what I read...

if you were built March 3, 2015 or earlier maybe this TSB is the fix...seems to sniff around your 6-5 down issue...if yours had the S27 recall done then I think this was automatically done as part of the required TCM flash for that "shifter" recall...

Ask them to perform a transmission "Quicklearn" with witech and see if that changes anything for you, as long as you are for sure up to date on your TCM software level.

Mine was doing that, like it wants to throw you into the windshield. I was going to install a 5pt harness bc it downshifted like an F1 car. :D I barely needed to brake bc the gears were stopping me plenty.
It's normal now though.

I drive mine in sport mode 90% of the time and have nice firm downshifts. Even in normal mode they are firm but not as hard. It's programmed this way for a sportier feel and probably for the longevity of the transmission. Does anyone remember the shift kits that you would install in the tranny? It would slam the gears. I don't remember if it was to save the clutches or what. If you want butter smooth transmission get a summit or an overland.

My first 15' was a mess. Awful downshifting. Replaced torque converter, valve body, trans, rear end, both rear half shafts and obviously all the software updates. Still had a terrible downshift. It was bought back and replaced with a new 15'. The new one has been flawless.

So this is a little different. Yesterday when I was leaving the gym (it's a merge onto a highway from a stop so I normally WOT when clear), I hit the accelerator and the SRT bucked wildly going from what I think was 1-2. It literally felt like I was gonna go thru the windshield, then accelerated normally. Temps were in the 30s but the tranny shouldn't have been that cold since I had just driven there a little more than an hour before.

Anyone experience this? Any ideas? Maybe cold tires (running pirelli scorpion ice and snow) and what I felt was the traction slippage and the systems trying to reduce torque to compensate? It is a 45 degree entry onto the highway. 2015 with under 25k miles.

So went to a different (new) dealer the other day to have my oil changed. They did a great job by the way and we're fast. I get an email after from Jeep asking me questions about my Jeep and the service I received. I put in the comments that I was not happy with the rough 6 to 5 downshifts shifts but was happy with service. The next day the service manager calls me and asked if I could bring the Jeep back and let their transmission tech drive it to see what he could find. I said sure. So I brought it in and rode shotgun with the tech. His assessment was while it was a little rough he did not think it was anything wrong or that it would get worse. When we got back he said he wanted to hook it up to their computers and see what it showed. After about 30 minutes he came back and said he found a PCM update and did the update. He said sometimes if the TCM is updated and not the PCM it can cause issues. Anyway, it fixed it. My downshifts are now butter smooth. So happy now!!!!

Well, I've got the same problems.

5th gear was shifting a little off, almost like it was slipping when engaging on upshift and downshift (i always use the paddles fyi). Sometimes when coming to a stop it would have a violent bang through the entire drivetrain. I made a service appointment and had the tech ride with me. He did notice the shift issue but said "these are race transmissions had have some hard shifting sometimes"..... wow is all I could think. He said since there was no check engine light to just keep an eye on it. That made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside (sarcasm).

Two weeks later I have the exact same issue while driving and made another appointment. Guess what? We did the exact same thing as the previous visit and I got the exact same response by another tech. So no resolution but to keep an eye on it.

Here we are a few weeks later while driving some back roads and the shifting is really getting bad. I decide to mount my phone (suction mount) to my drivers side window and record the instrument cluster. To my luck, BOOM! It happened and bad. Check engine light and stuck in D4 (4th gear). It would not come out of 4th at all. From a stop, shutting it off and starting again....nothing. Called SRT hotline and they set me up with a tow to the nearest dealer.

Dealer replaced the valvebody and said it was good to go, until the tech test drove it. Check engine light again. Dealer called me back and said it was getting a new transmission . Picking it up in a few hours.... I'll keep you all posted on the outcome.

Just got home. Soooo much better. Crisp precise shifts. Exactly what it should be. Im not sure if it is the new transmission or the fact i've been in a Toyota 4-Runner rental for over a week but the exhaust "blips" sound more crisp/aggressive during up/down shifts.

Just glad its back and running great!
