TRUSTED Gasoline additive?

I have a 2014 JGC Overland and have used regular unleaded from day one. I have about 22k miles on it. Is anyone using a TRUSTED gasoline additive? If so...how often are you adding it to a full tank and what product?

Is it "snake oil"?

Thanks in Advance.

Re: TRUSTED Gasoline additive?

Most pump gas you'll find already has a detergent additive to help keep your fuel system clean. Personally, I don't think there's anything to gain by adding any. I don't believe the owners manual recommends it either.

Me personally, I would stay away from those additives. Things such as octane boosters can harm your engine if your vehicle is not properly tuned for it.
I do use the STP Fuel Injector cleaner every once in a great while in my daily driver though, to keep injectors clean. Comes in the little black bottle and works great!

Thank you...anyone else using the STP product? It was all I used on my Honda Accord 20 years ago. I used to use 1 bottle per 10 fill ups. What is your ratio if I may ask?

(using the regular or super concentrated). I drive about 64 miles daily M-F and hardly any on weekends. Just want to keep this baby for many years. Already getting the oil changed every 5K (I have 12 free dealer changes).

Thanks for the advice.

Re: TRUSTED Gasoline additive?

Todays motors have sensors that ajust too the fuel and air its given.

Also say you have a 5.7 hemi that calls for 0w-20 and you add stp oil treatment
you will thicken the oil and the lifters will not allow the motor to go into 4cyd mode(eco mode)

I use the black bottle which is the super concentrated mix.
I usually use it every other oil change. I use Mobil 1, so it's every 10k miles or so. Also, fill up, then add the STP. Most people make the mistake of putting it in and then filling up. Not the way it works. Top off, then add, as you may know already.
Good luck.

Re: TRUSTED Gasoline additive?

If, and I repeat, IF you use Top Tier fuels (Shell, Amoco, etc) no additive is necessary. And yes all gasoline contains detergents, but TT fuels can contain 3X the amount of additives compared to cheaper fuels, lime Hess, Murphy, etc.
