Uncomfortable Drivers Seat

I purchased my 2014 SRT about a month ago brand new and love everything about the Jeep, except for the drivers seat. When I took it on a test drive for 5 miles, I did not notice the issue that I currently have every day after ownership.

That issue is that my ribs seem to get bruised on my right side from the seat. Something on the right side of my seat is digging into my ribs and was wondering if anyone else has this issue. Maybe I am just too fat for the seats, but I do not know how much longer I can take these seats.

I have tried sitting differently, putting the lumbar support in different places, but I just can't get this damn seat to stop jabbing my ribs on the right side. For whatever reason, the left side does not bother me.

Just looking to see if anyone else has had this issue and what you did to resolve it. I cant see paying $70,000 for a vehicle and having my ribs bother me for an hour after I drive the Jeep for 15 miles to work and back home. My 2011 Jeep Wrangler had more comfortable seats.

Thanks for any help!

Re: Uncomfortable Drivers Seat

Dave,

I don't have the rib issue that you have, but I was considering a post about the uncomfortable nature of the seats. For the life of me, I can't find a comfortable position. After much tinkering, I found a "won't cause me lower back pain" position, but that's about it.

As far as your case, have you had anyone else sit there and see if the feel the same thing? Can you feel something sticking out with your hands over the area? Is it in a small area or most of your ribcage?

Re: Uncomfortable Drivers Seat

I have not had anyone else sit in the seat yet, as I may have to do that. I am 6' 4", and have an abnormally large torso area, so that may be the issue. It only hurts in a small area of my ribcage towards the bottom of my ribs.

Others have commented on the uncomfortable nature of the driver's seat. I have a 2012, but I believe the seats are similar in later models. The perception, or reality, that the seats are overly stiff arises from the inserts that are required for the cooling/ventilation feature. Compared to the the first generation of the SRT8, the seats are definitely stiffer.

To make a long story short, the secret is to fiddle with ALL the seat adjustment features until you find the best and most comfortable contours for your body. For example, if there is to much pressure on your ribs, you might want to place the seat back in a more upright position, to lower the pressure on your back. This might require lowering the front of the seat coushion to obtain a more comfortable leg position. Also, the lumbar support can be adjusted up and down, as well as in and out. A lower position for the lumbar support might reduce rib pressure. Unless you really need lumbar support, it might be better to try for a "loose" fit around your lower back.

I eventually found very comfortable settings for my seat, and have driven many miles and hours without pain or fatigue. My suggestions helped a few other drivers persevere and eventually find their personal settings. Don't give up. Just keep trying.

Good advice. It took me an unusually long time to find the perfect position, and for a while it was really frustrating. Like you said, just keep trying.

Re: Uncomfortable Drivers Seat

For MY14 your seat foam is:

Laredo/E, Cloth....#2 Foam
Altitude, Suede....#5 Foam
Limited (Std)....#6 Foam
Limited (Lux II)....#1 Foam
Overland....#5 Foam
Summit....#3 Foam
SRT (Suede Perf)....#4 Foam
SRT (Laguna)....#7 Foam

To the best of my knowledge, higher number is firmer as I know for a fact the Overland #5 seats are very firm compared to my #3 Summit seats. So, relatively speaking, SRT's w/ Laguna seats (#7) have rocks for seats and Lux II Limiteds (#1) have squishers and other models/trims fill in between.

Other things like seat material, seat shape, bolster config, seat surface material, vented/non-vented, position, etc.. all affect perceived seat comfort.

You can confirm your foam # by VIN here:

https://jeep.custhelp.com/app/jeep/e...WGxOMmc2T2w%3D

I would presume MY15 is identical.

Re: Uncomfortable Drivers Seat

After upgrade from MY12 Overland with Saddle interior to MY15 SRT with Suede, I can say the overland is definetely more Firmer compared to the SRT. I find the Standard SRT seat is more comfortable than the overland.
