What is the best way to prevent rust on your WK2?

Hello all - I noticed a rusting nut in the front wheel well today on my 2014 Jeep GC Limited and this got me wondering about the best way to treat / prevent rust on my vehicle (I didn't look under it yet). I do the undercarriage wash at the car wash and we're past snow / salt season (we were when I picked it up as well) so this appears to be just rust from rain / wet roads.

What have you found the best way to prevent / treat / keep ahead of rust? I saw another thread where some folks talked about the POR 15 product. Is that a common way to go - and do you do the whole thing or just spot treat? Is just spot treating with some spray Rustoleum not sufficient / ineffective?

If you are using a product like the POR 15 on all the bits that rust - including nuts and bolts, does that create issues when you need to replace a part later?

Thanks for any insight. I'd like to keep this Jeep in good repair and I know that there are folks here who know far more about the right / best way to do this than I do.

Re: What is the best way to prevent rust on your WK2?

pretty sure por is for after the fact not as a preventitive. ive read about people spraying down with lanolin, but i have no idea where you would get that. wd 40 would only last till the first rain than wash off and logicially anything you spray on there is likely to attract dirt and dust. how bout plastidip? its a spray on plastic, kinda like the coating on the handle of a pair of channellocks. its easily peeled off if the fastener needs to be removed. lots of folks are using it to spray their wheels for a different look. Or you could just move to Pheonix. Or my favorite, say the hell with it, its going to happen its the price you pay to live in the rust belt

here is an example of plastidip if you go on youtube theres tons more http://www.jeepgarage.org/f73/plasti...ods-59079.html

There is quite a following over on JeepPatriot.com that are crazy about Fluid Film. I use it on some nuts and bolts on my WK2. I used it with great success on preventing the notorious rusting and corrosion of the wheel hub on the Patriot. You can buy a drum of Fluid Film, or an aerosol can. If you have a sprayer, you can get a gallon or so and spray the undercarriage of the vehicle.

Thanks sndrsk - I'll take a look at Fluid Film. Yes, it does seem to be a bolt / nut issue. Looking under the Jeep, there are a lot of well painted surfaces under there but the fasteners all stick out with their rust color.

I use fluid film on my atv to stop squeaks and rust, it works great. It is a little more expensive but a lot of people swear by it.
