Hey guys, I've noticed recently that if I drive my stock WK2 hard (especially above 5k rpm) I start to get the smell of something burning from the engine somewhere. It lasts maybe a minute or so, but by then I've slowed down since I'm worried it will get worse. It smells like burning rubber I suppose. It has to be said that I am experiencing 100 degree weather here with fairly high humidity, but it's been like that all summer and I've never gotten the smell previously when driving/launching hard in those conditions.
I had a quick look under the hood and the only thing that seems slightly out of place to my untrained and unmechanical eye is a couple of wires going from the air box hose to the block. It looks a little odd that an electrical wire should be so close to something that gets pretty hot and is also touching the smaller black hose (coolant pipe?) that snakes around the power steering fluid container.
The only thing that's different is I recently went in for the first 6k mile service at the dealer, and I'm pretty sure it started to happen after that trip. I will be going in to have it checked out but just wondering if anyone else has this issue? I recently saw a WK1 thread about this so could it be related?
