Bent WK2 spider monkey wheel

Have any of you had problems with the OEM spider monkey wheels? Just noticed that one of my wheels is bent. No idea when it would have happened and have had no problems with multiple sets of the forged OEM wheels. I had my wheels balanced Friday afternoon, could the techs have caused this kind of damage? I got under the car and did not notice any type of bend on the other side of the wheel.

The summit rims are soft as butter also I have been though two in the last year. If its not shaking when you drive I would just leave it, those rims probably cost a fortune. the summit ones are $624 each im sure yours are more than that

Re: Bent WK2 spider monkey wheel

This is why you buy the Mopar Tire and Wheel service contract. Covers all wheels and tires (even 3rd party). You can buy up to 7 years of coverage and there is no deductible. 7 years of coverage is roughly $350. You only have to replace one wheel and the service contract pays for itself. I don't know why Chrysler doesn't advertise this more. Seems like it should be sold/advertised in tandem with the Maxcare Lifetime service contract.

I bought both of my service contracts (Mopar Tire and Wheel, 7 year, no deductible and Lifetime MaxCare, $100 deductible) from Zeigler so paid much less than the asking prices. Bob Cline is great to work with.

Re: Bent WK2 spider monkey wheel

You can get it for 310.00 from Ziegler. 😉 As to the OP highly doubtful that something like that could have happened by a tech balancing your wheels. Unless the tires were dismounted at some point of your visit. May I ask what the reason for the rebalancing was. Were you getting a shimmy or vibration before your visit. ?

Had new tires and wheels installed 3 weeks ago. Utilized a wheel exchange program to exchange my OEM satin spider monkey wheels for an OEM black PVD spider monkey set. Had some vibration issues when driving in the 70 mph range so I took it back to the dealer last Friday. They indicated that the front wheels were out of balance and made the appropriate adjustments. They did not mention that the front wheel was bent as a reason for the vibration. I picked up the car at 5:30 at night and took a quick look at the wheels for any scratches (it is also worth noting that you can't really see the bend if that area of the wheel is closest to the ground), didn't see anything so I moved along. I keep my wheels pretty clean and noticed that the front wheel was bent when I was cleaning up the car today. Unfortunately I can't tie any single event back to what might have put enough stress on the wheel to bend it. Have had the SRT8 for 50K miles and never bent any of the other spider monkey wheels that were on it. I also didn't recall seeing anyone else experience a bent rim unless they had an accident.

Is there any way that the new ones you exchanged for are reps by chance?

Re: Bent WK2 spider monkey wheel

I had the same thought. The wheels were advertised as OEM from a company that others have had good luck with. The coating process covered the spot where the markings are located so it is hard to verify.
