I have the dark chrome spider monkeys on a 2015 SRT. Hit a curb the other day got some pretty basic rash on the rim. Any chance this is an easy fix? How much or how should I repair? As always thx for the valued suggestions on this forum!
There are only a few aftermarket wheel shops that will refinish a wheel in black chrome. The problem is that it's expensive to do, and in most cases you can buy an oem replacement wheel for less than a full black re-chrome.
With that said, if the curb rash is very close to the tire rubber, you can still have the wheel repaired inexpensively, but it will look like regular chrome finish in the repaired area - cheaper and IMHO I would rather pay $100 to fix the rash and rebalance since it would be hard for anyone to tell the difference anyways.
May I politely suggest you look into purchasing the Mopar Tire and Wheel Service Contract? For just about what you are going to pay to repair/replace your wheel you could get 7 years of coverage. The Mopar Tire and Wheel Service Contract covers both original equipment Tires and Wheels as well as any replacement or aftermarket. You can purchase the contract from any Chrysler dealer but I would suggest Zeigler. That would be the same Zeigler that many of us have purchased our Mopar MaxCare Service Contracts from. You especially want this if your area offers the challenges of "tank traps" (AKA, potholes) making this Mopar Service Contract a no brainer.
I appreciate the responses this helps a lot. So if I go to a local dealer and ask about this service, being that I'm less than six months with the vehicle I should have no problem adding? And if it's more than 10$ a month it sounds like I should shop around or call Ziegler as noted? Otherwise at the same price they should be the same service plan right? Again I appreciate the guidance, thx so much!
I just looked things up for you. My Jeep Cherokee was 9 months old at the time I bought the Mopar Tire and Wheel Service Contract. They never asked me the mileage for this particular Service Contract but did ask me the mileage for the MacCare Service Contract. I bought both in May of last year. I paid $310 for the 7 year Mopar Tire and Wheel Service Contract. 7 Years is the longest you can buy it for but you can buy it for fewer years. I doubt you would save too much shopping around for the Mopar Tire and Wheel Service Contract like you can with the MaxCare Service Contract. It doesn't cost that much to begin with. The only reason I bought from Zeigler is that Bob Cline gave me a good deal on the Lifetime MaxCare Service Contract so I felt comfortable with him. He saved me over $800 on the MaxCare Service Contract over what my selling dealer wanted.
310$ seems like a much better deal the fixing per wheel as the issues arise. Thank u so much for the time and efforts on your response! Most appreciated
