Powder Coat or Paint OEM Black Chrome Spider Monkeys

Sup Guys,

Talked to a few local body shops about my OEM Spider Monkeys in black chrome.. Some people are telling me if they paint the wheels gloss black, it won't stick as well because of the Chrome finish. Some places are telling me it will be okay. Would love to know if anyone has been in the same dilemma and what did they choose? Two wheels have some curb rash, which is why I'm going with Gloss Black! Also if you did go with the powdercoating, what % gloss did you go with?

hey bud
ok first off do not go to the guy that said it would not stick.
wrong
they blast them first and then have a special process so it will stick.
its a science

gloss black 90% my guy called it
he said it either matt or gloss
here a pic love mine

ps they were actually dirty in this pic and no center cap..sorry
second pic is stock and then gloss black with Black ops Mid level springs
cheers

All the powdercoating I have had done starts out with the piece being blasted first.
90% - That's a great compromise. Getting new center caps?
Love the drop too.

Oh god after reading what I typed... It wasn't what I was implying!

One body shop said he can just paint the rims. The other shop said you can't paint the black chrome finish. You need to powder coat them.

Sorry guys for the misinterpretation!! So my question was has anyone painted gloss black or does everyone go with powder coating? To paint them literally cost half of powdercoating.

I have followed this saying for many years and it is always worked out from cars to houses
" you get what you pay for for"
there is a science of powder coating which is meant to long last a long time especially under situations that we put our car in and like racing
Possibly going on the track even everyday driving
I would go with the powder coating

Makes sense. The gloss black does look amazing on the SRT. The extra $300 to get it done right and not have to worry makes sense. I see most people are doing powder coating for the OEM Spider Monkeys.

Well I just painted my black chrome wheels gloss black, and heat treaded. They look amazing. I am now stuck with factory chrome lug nuts, but not for long. Going to order the black gorilla ones on Monday. I think it will look better.

Did they sandblast your wheels? They literally just painted them over gloss black?

Well I talked to the guys and the sanded and then painted them. I thought I wanted powder coated but I was mistaken. I have been wrong before and it's usually at a cost. I believe it was a good choice sanding, painting and heat treating. They did a great Job

What's the difference in finished product to powder coating in your opinion

Looks killer.

Did you order the Jeep with the blacked out trim or have that done?
