Trading up - Summit to SRT?

I have a 2014 GC summit loaded to the hilt and Im debating about trading it for an SRT. I have a couple of questions I cant seem to find answers to.

First off, My headliner is suede and the 2014 SRT headliner is fabric. Is the headliner on the 2015 also fabric? I get conflicting reports that it is something other than fabric and/or that there was an available option for a premium headliner package. I honestly dont care much about the headliner but the plastic windshield pillar covers are a bit annoying compared to mine. I could always recover them i supposed. Im just building a justification list between 2014 and 2015 with more items than the 5 hp and the sound spectrum deally. Update... I see that the vapor package has premium headliner option. I guess that means it exists.

Second, it appears that the the standard 2014 srt leather in the bolsters is a much lower quality than the leather in my summit. Can this be confirmed? Im going to guess that the sepia is on par with what is in the summit but I cant confirm any of that. Is the leather in the 2015 better than the 2014? After 80,000 miles, the leather in my summit is perfect. The srt leather creased up in as few as 10k based on the cars I've test driven

Thanks.

Re: Trading up - Summit to SRT?

The SRT seats are far superior to any other trim's setup, and provide much more support. My buddies have a 14' Overland and Limited, and both wish they had my seats. I drove a 14' Summit and do not recall there being any difference in the side bolsters...am I off here?

Two totally different experiences...what do you want out of the vehicle for? Use? Mine is my DD and I love it. I get 19-22 on the freeway and 15-16 around town. I live in a small town so I do not have to go far very often and commute is 20 miles round trip. I came from an 08' and my buddy had his Overland for over a year while I only had the WK1. I got to drive both and had test driven multiple SRT's and various other trims. Hands-down, I was getting an SRT. Just spent 4 hours detailing it and was admiring the things I have done and how stoked I am this is my ride I have had it for 14 months (bought used with 4k miles); it has 17k as of today. The thing is a straight beast. It ain't cheap, but you can't take it with $ you!

FYI if you have the itch and the scratch, don't test drive one or you will end up buying it HAHA

Re: Trading up - Summit to SRT?

I've test driven the 2014. It's certainly impressive. I've owned several Benz AMGs that weren't as fun as the wk2 srt in drivability. I'm just wondering if the 2015 interiors are better quality. The srt design is different than my summits but it seems to be lower quality. This seems odd since it's the flagship model. An AMG interior is vastly better than other models with features you cant even get on other models... plus a haul ass motor. The srt has the motor thing dead on bad ass lol.

These guys hit it on the head.
Also, the 15's and up have the suede headliner. My 15 has it to confirm.

Re: Trading up - Summit to SRT?

I went from a '14 Summit 5.7l to a '15 SRT with Red Vapor Package. Test drove the '14 SRT when buying the Summit and "regular" '15 SRT when buying my Red Vapor and I know what you mean to some degree. Yes, the Summit is technically a step above interior finish wise mainly because of the 100% Summit Natura leather seats vs. the Laguna leather Ultra-suede "inserts" on the std SRT but it's really apples and oranges. Besides, you can get a '15 Red Vapor (very hard to find tho) Laguna/Ultra-suede or '16 Night with the premium all-Laguna seats and now you are equal or better than the Summit. The SRT is an extremely luxurious and feature rich sledge hammer and what a friggin' blast it is. Carbon fiber trim is also very sporty. I still have the '14 Summit and while it is awesome in it's own right it now feels like I am driving a Buick (just an expression guys ) now that I am spoiled by the SRT. Just no comparison.

Given your focus on the interior you should also note the difference in suspension. Plain and simple the Summit's Quadra-lift air ride makes it a dreamy creamy luxo ride and the SRT is, well, a high performance sledge hammer. SRT ride is great for me but it is twitchier and does not float over the Cleveland potholes like the Summit does. The Summit is technically a better DD for my area and conditions and the sensible choice but who cares are being sensible all the time, right??? The SRT is so much more fun to drive!

Net net, drive a couple and let your butt comfort meter (and dyno) and grin meter guide you

The SRT blows the Summit away in the most important category...GPM...Grins Per Mile

sorry for the ramble but its my 20 cents.

Re: Trading up - Summit to SRT?

Thanks eveyone.

GPG...thank you for the first hand experience. I like the sledge hammer description. In my area, the 15's are about $7k more expensive. Since the upgrades between the 2 years are minor, I think I'll stick with the 14.

Heads up on a feature that I personally find invaluable.....Adaptive Cruise w/STOP.

Do you currently have the "w/Stop" on your ACC? All '14 non-SRT JGC's built on or after 7/23/13, the so-called 2014.5 mid-yr refresh, got it added. No '14 SRT has ACC w/Stop but all '15 JGC (incl SRT) with ACC have w/Stop.

So if your Summit was a so-called early build you don't have ACC w/Stop, just Enhanced ACC, so you won't miss it...

This is probably not a deal killer to you or most but it weighed on me when I was deciding between a '14 Summit and '14 SRT....that was back when I was trying to talk myself out of what I really wanted, an SRT

Re: Trading up - Summit to SRT?

I have a '14 SRT that was built June of 2014 (iirc). It has a suede headliner.

I prefer the SRT Napa leather w/ alcantara compared to full leather seats. The alcantara is much more grippy, so you don't move around in the seat at all. Also, compared to my 2015 SRT 392 Charger (same seat design/material), the GC alcantara is MUCH softer and feels great - for some reason the Charger's feels like obviously fake suede...

I had the ACC w/ stop on my Charger, and my GC does not have the full stop capability due to not receiving the new update as mentioned above. The only time I have "missed" it was the return trip when I bought the GC as it took me through Chicago. Where I live and travel, there is only stop/go traffic if there is a major accident or something. I dislike that I don't have it, but it has yet to make a real difference to me. I do miss the lane assist sometimes though.

Re: Trading up - Summit to SRT?

What is acc with stop? Does it come to a complete stop and then accelerate for you when traffic starts moving? Mine doesn't do that and I have the 15' SRT
