Re: Whispbar roof rack pics on 2015 SRT

I want to scream right now. I bought the Thule setup for a beach trip last year, and while I liked it, and it worked well, it was still a bit of a hassle setting up and getting everything lined up.

Now I see this!!!

I gotta say, It looks great, and I am envious of your setup.

Thanks, I had this setup on my 2010 SRT8 with OEM non srt8 rack…and it was great…..Once I traded it in on the 15, I had to find something to work….I thought the Whispbar rack looked best out of all racks out there for the WK2's, and once I realized it was no mods required and simple to install, I picked it up right away. I can be back to OEM look in about 5-6mins.

Vtac, if u take the racks off, when u put the screws back in the roof just ensure u use a silicon or sealer just to make sure things are water tight again.

I only run the racks when I use the Thule…..never had an issue before with snugging up the OEM screws and any moisture getting in…no different than what the factory did…mine definitely didn't have any…..but yeah I could do that if concerned.

Re: Whispbar roof rack pics on 2015 SRT

I had mine fitted at the Whispbar factory and it was just a bit of advice the guys gave me, I just use a bit of thread tape to seal it up just in case.
Just calling it out.

all good Hutch, i hear you…..i wouldn't ever use a silicon, as it would eventually make a mess of things up, but if I ever did do something, Teflon tape would be the way to go

OEM for what? roof rails? if so, the OEM roof rails do nothing to hold your rack, as you still have to use the existing OEM screw locations as placement for the crossbars. The hole locations are visible on the SRT covers and are utilized through the open OEM rails too if you want to run something large.

I originally purchased a set of OEM roof rails, after seeing another thread here of them mounted on the SRT, but later found out it was not required to run this for any cross bar setup. When I opened the box, I immediately noticed they did not appear to be very strong. I originally thought I could adjust the crossbars by sliding them forward and backward to any spot, but you cannot. You must use the factory set holes. Took it in originally to Rack/Thule dealer and they were the ones who confirmed this, who advised the OEM roof rails are not strong enough to hold a large cargo box if you attempted to mount anywhere other than the pre-existing hole locations, as the metal is very thin. I then sold the OEM roof rails to another member here who wanted them.

The other thread here with the instructions and installation of the OEM roof rails has one member with a picture of a Yakima box on top after install, but he still had to use the pre-existing holes. He was the first to tell me the OEM roof rails were not required, and that the SRT covers would still work fine.
