Thought I'd post a few pics of the whispbar installed on my rig with no modifications and no addition of regular WK2 roof rails required. I didn't even have to trim any of the new hardware to make work …..the Whispbar kit directly bolts up over top of the SRT plastic rail covers using the OEM bolt positions. I'll throw the Thule up there tomorrow to show look. I am a firm believer in the cargo box for throwing extra gear in for trips etc…mine easily doubles my cargo capacity.:D

I check my receipt for model number....standby. I do know the whispbar is generic, it's the fit kit that allows compatibility with srt, but I believe the fit kit is the same as any WK2 model GC.

Looks good. Have been looking at the Whispbar as well. I believe that there is confusion with the Distributer whereas one Site indicates WK2 GC and another says will not fit JGC Limited. Going to communicate with the directly because it is the only system which is good looking on the vehicle.

Here is my receipt with the only part numbers on it ….FYI, I used a company called Rackattack.com They have stores in Canada and Western USA from what I saw.

My Thule is so large I had to move the rack forward to the very front of the OEM holes, otherwise the rear hatch spoiler would have contact with the back of the box…if you have a smaller cargo box you can definitely move your rack further back.….worked out nice thus far….test fit went well.

Lots of pics here….:D

Bringing up an old thread...I found these whispbars, same item numbers. Does anyone know if they’ll fit my 2020 GC Altitude? I’m not sure if the non functional rails changed over the years.

thanks…

nope no harness, nothing modded with my lights…..that was one turn of the dial to the right….caught my eye too that the lower driving LEDs were still activated while in Park.

I want to scream right now. I bought the Thule setup for a beach trip last year, and while I liked it, and it worked well, it was still a bit of a hassle setting up and getting everything lined up.

Now I see this!!!

I gotta say, It looks great, and I am envious of your setup.

Thanks, I had this setup on my 2010 SRT8 with OEM non srt8 rack…and it was great…..Once I traded it in on the 15, I had to find something to work….I thought the Whispbar rack looked best out of all racks out there for the WK2's, and once I realized it was no mods required and simple to install, I picked it up right away. I can be back to OEM look in about 5-6mins.

Vtac, if u take the racks off, when u put the screws back in the roof just ensure u use a silicon or sealer just to make sure things are water tight again.

I only run the racks when I use the Thule…..never had an issue before with snugging up the OEM screws and any moisture getting in…no different than what the factory did…mine definitely didn't have any…..but yeah I could do that if concerned.

I had mine fitted at the Whispbar factory and it was just a bit of advice the guys gave me, I just use a bit of thread tape to seal it up just in case.
Just calling it out.

all good Hutch, i hear you…..i wouldn't ever use a silicon, as it would eventually make a mess of things up, but if I ever did do something, Teflon tape would be the way to go:thumbsup:

OEM for what? roof rails? if so, the OEM roof rails do nothing to hold your rack, as you still have to use the existing OEM screw locations as placement for the crossbars. The hole locations are visible on the SRT covers and are utilized through the open OEM rails too if you want to run something large.

I originally purchased a set of OEM roof rails, after seeing another thread here of them mounted on the SRT, but later found out it was not required to run this for any cross bar setup. When I opened the box, I immediately noticed they did not appear to be very strong. I originally thought I could adjust the crossbars by sliding them forward and backward to any spot, but you cannot. You must use the factory set holes. Took it in originally to Rack/Thule dealer and they were the ones who confirmed this, who advised the OEM roof rails are not strong enough to hold a large cargo box if you attempted to mount anywhere other than the pre-existing hole locations, as the metal is very thin. I then sold the OEM roof rails to another member here who wanted them.

The other thread here with the instructions and installation of the OEM roof rails has one member with a picture of a Yakima box on top after install, but he still had to use the pre-existing holes. He was the first to tell me the OEM roof rails were not required, and that the SRT covers would still work fine.

Haven't taken the plastic covers off, as there is no need to, but if you do, you will have exposed threaded holes, or if you install the screws back, just a bunch if black screws on your roof. Not sure if the fit kit would work if you don't have the srt covers or rails on, as the new double ended screws for the crossbars are quite long. They would have to be cut a small amount.

Easy enough for you go out and remove and check for yourself.

Yo!

I will take responsibility for all you SRT owners who swapped to "bright rails" to run cross bars... this is pretty legit (running whispbars on OEM 'non-functional'/decorative rails) - however you don't have the ability to run the cross bar at specific locations (must run at predetermined bolt holes) but nonetheless very clean.

By the way, that is the sickest Thule box I have seen. What model is that? Is it a "Thule Atlantis" ?

All good Tuned8e…we learn from trial and error.

This box is the Thule Atlantis 1800…about 5-6 years old now….I liked as its faux carbon fibre design, and have never seen another one like it, but looks great IMO.

Hi All,
Fantastic information, and thank you.

I bought a 2015 JGC Altitude this weekend and never thought putting a rack system on a Jeep could be this difficult!.
My assumption of course is that the black plastic rails on the Altitude are the same as the SRT. I will be ordering this rack. I really like the flush mount. Why doesn't this show up on any web searches? People have been trying to get around this problem for years ... And there is a good option.

New to this board and Jeep (previous Xterra owner), any other surprises I should know about?

queue up some depressing coldplay 'nobody said it was easy...' haha. Nice job on the altitude - you'll want to get some SRT headlights for it now.
