Re: Adding a sub to the hk 19 speaker system

I really need to figure out where to receive the RCA/low-range signal (like you said above)...other than that, running the power and ground would be simple with the battery on the passenger front...then if you can tap into the rear amp to get the RCA output, we would be golden. Nobody has done this? Would make it a 20-speaker system then haha!!

Re: Adding a sub to the hk 19 speaker system

So I thought I would throw in my new found experience into the mix.

I recently got rid of the RER for an aftermarket unit. I originally had the RER sub output tapped into and was using that to send signal to my Audison 5.1k amp (only the sub was hooked up then). The sub was deafening! Pre stealthbox/Audison 5.1k, I would listen to the RER at a vol of 26 with the windows down and could barely hear/feel the sub. After stealthbox/Audison 5.1k, the bass hit was awesome at low volumes... and with the windows down I couldn't go past 20 without the bass drowning all the mids/highs. So when we installed the aftermarket unit, we decided to run RCAs to the Audison 5.1k and rewire the entire system (including the sub). We pulled full frequency from the driver door and, while it does sound amazing, I don't get deep bass again until I am in the +20s. With volumes that high, I can't hear my GT Haus opened at 5000 RPMs w/ the windows down!!!! I can tell you that the HK system REALLY wakes up with more power and seems to be handling it well.

about the frequency response, i dont know whether the low pass filter is in the amp or the processor unit. i will have to bring my SVS home theater sub down to hook into lci, its tuned to 16hz so will know for sure if its getting all the low lows. if not, may have to go up the line and pull signal from before the factory amp.

i really wanted to put an 18 in there with a tight sealed box, but i dont think that will work without moving metal or having the sub stick out into the cargo area. RE, FI, and SQubed all mount too deep. i would like to keep the lid fitting properly on the top. looking like a 12 or maybe a shallow 15 will be the way to go with a sonotube enclosure for easy of removal when more storage is necessary.
I raised the floor about 1 inch and got clearance to run two 15's as noted in my signature. You do not need to cut the floor as I did in my previous install of a 13w7 ported. My JBL subs are 10.25 inches deep and have 2 inches of grill clearance.

Any questions dont hesitate to ask. See my build log for pics.

Edit.....btw the factory plastic cover will resonate like crazy as mine did. You will definitely want to build a different cover. Durangos have the same issue.

Stand by for a pic of the factory signal.
