If you like music and music quality, this option is for you.
I agree with Red Suns, take a 10min test listen. Bring your iPod or CD with your favorite music (songs you know really well) and listen to it critically. Play around with the settings until you find something that suits your ears and then relisten to tracks you have already heard. If you are happy then save the money you would of spent and get yourself a few mods.

Scott does have a point about the '14s with the new headunit and doing a system with it, but usually entails finding and tapping into the source and the power for the amp.

Have you looked at this video series?
Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, Audison Full DA Stereo System, Part 1 - Amplified #106 - YouTube
Its a six part video series and the work done for this Jeep is phenominal but there is ATLEAST $5k spent on that install. A few people emailed the shop and they quoted the sub box by itself is $2k (sub not included)...

Re: Harman Upgrade

All SRT's have the same head unit, I think its a valid question asking whether to pay for the HK audio upgrade or install speakers and amps for that price, I vote for the HK audio, I made sure my car had it (it was a deal breaker for me), I was expecting powerful, what I got exceeded my expectations, meaty bass, no distortion when the music is played loud, I had the bass setting turned all the way up for the first day, now its back to its original setting (half way), the idea of trying to integrate anything with this 8.4 HU is very frightening to me, I haven't seen threads any threads discussing it, which leads me to believe its not being done, you could ultimately get the base system hoping to upgrade and getting stuck with it because it can't be done, go for the HK audio, it will help your resale value, and you wont have to worry about warranty voids by playing with your car's electronics and wiring while trying to go for an after market system.

great find, I stand corrected, you CAN go aftermarket with full HU integration, and you will probably get a better audio output, but I'm not sure if its 3000 USD better, also every time they removed a panel or cut a wire, my heart literally stopped, I don't have the stomach for that much interior work, my vote remains unchanged lol

Re: Harman Upgrade

Maybe I'm the only one on here that has a contrary view of this discussion. I had the upgraded system on my 2012 and thought it was crap. So when I got my 2014, I listened to the base system. IMO the base system on the 2014 sounded much better than the upgraded system on my 2012. Base is more rich and balanced sound throughout the cabin. I also didn't like the silver trim on the new upgraded speakers in the door, looks cheap to me.

For me and what sound quality the base system out out and I am usually very critical of sound systems, I did not feel it was worth paying $2k more for the vehicle.

My recommendation is to listen to both and weigh the cost.

I would like to thank everyone for their opinion. That's all I was asking for in my initial post. I think I'm going to go with the HK, as there aren't any GC near with the HK system. If it's not beefy enough, I can always add a different sub. Again thank you. There boards are worth their weight in gold.

Thats my plan as well... Add a different sub if i need a little more low end. I have a feeling we will be content with the HK though.
