options to get Traffic on 8.4A Nav system

So I purchased my 2015 Altitude and in doing so discussed the NAV upgrade in detail and was told it would include the traffic feature. This feature was important to me, and with its inclusion I purchased the option to turn on Nav.

Fast forward, the dealership did turn on the key for Traffic with Sirius as promised, but alas the 8.4A does not support this needed Traffic feature.

The dealership sales team has been clueless, insisting it should work, but from reading here and elsewhere the unit the being the 8.4A not the 8.4AN is the actual issue. Among other things it sounds like the 8.4AN has 16GB of memory to support 3D maps, and perhaps another tuner for HD radio.

All really care about is the traffic component.

I do NOT want to just use my smart phone - I want traffic included in my JGC system - so with that in mind any suggestions on could be done next?

Does the system need to be replaced (what all does that entail?) or is there actually a way for the Traffic to be added to the 8.4A itself?

Many thanks for your helpful feedback and guidance.

twistagrip, I'm in the same boat as you were. I've spent the last week making many calls to XM and my dealership trying to get the Traffic working. Did you have any luck? I will be really bummed out if I can't get it, as that was one of the big reasons in getting the $600 nav option. My last two cars had it and now I'm used to it. And like you, I don't want to use my phone all the time trying to figure out the best routes.

The 8.4A (RA3) DOES NOT have traffic and you cannot get it. It's only available on the 8.4AN. Differences located here. Click on the Grand Cherokee image and you can review the differences between the RA2, RA3 and RA4 radios.
