Rear DVD Entertainment

I purchased my 2014 Jeep GC SRT with the rear DVD Entertainment unit. For the life of me I don't know how to use the HDMI or RCA inputs. More specifically, what device can you use to plug into the inputs on the seats that don't require to be plugged into a power socket. I am from Australia and the Aussie spec GC don't come with a power socket under the rear air vents. Instead we get 2 USB inputs. I believe the American and possibly other countries GC get a power socket.

I have contacted Chrysler in Australia and they confirmed that there is no owners manual for the DVD entertainment and they are still looking into my above querie. ( 4 weeks )

If someone who has this unit has managed to use the inputs on the seat can you let me know what device you did this through.

Re: Rear DVD Entertainment

On my 15 I can confirm that I do have the ac outlet under the vents in the rear. Like you said, I'm not sure what you can use without having to plug it in...very odd.

Re: Rear DVD Entertainment

Got a response back from Jepp today and they confirmed that the only way it can work in Aust is by using a powered device. A laptop.
In other words these inputs on the seat are useless in Aust. I asked what do I do if the laptop needs charging while watching a DVD and he didn't really give me a response. Because it too would need to be charged via a power outlet that the Jeep doesn't have.

Re: Rear DVD Entertainment

Can you use a power invertor that plugs into the cigarette lighter to power the lap top or use an iPhone , iPad , iPod with an HDMI adapter

Re: Rear DVD Entertainment

The inverter is something I need to look into.

The other option like you said is to use an iPhone/iPad and buy an adapter. It is just frustrating that we don't get a power socket.

Re: Rear DVD Entertainment

I agree. It might explain why it took them 4 weeks to get back to me.

While waiting for a reply from Jeep I rang 5 other Jeep dealers and asked about the inputs and not one of them could explain to me how to use them.

You can plug a Google Chrome TV into the HDMI and cast anything to it from you android phone. It can be powered by USB. Otherwise I plug in my iPhone with an adapter and the kids get to watch their Netflix. My old Sony Phone had HDMI output to so that was nice too.

They do come with the DVD player. However in Aust we do not have the power supply in the rear under the air events like they do in the USA. So if I wanted to connect a game console (or any other device) for the kids to play with by using the HDMI ports on the seat we can't because it will require a power source to power the console/device.

I used the Apple one, works great. It is nice to have a plug, I brought our PS4 on a recent road trip and the kids were playing FIFA 15 against each other. When the oldest comes he plays Call of Duty online off the wifi on his phone. We don't get the wifi hotspot option with our Jeeps because ChryCo can't reach a agreement with our cell providers.
