Re: SRT/Harman Audio - anyone else here unimpressed?

Good lord where in the world would you find 19 places to put speakers? I'm guessing I have the standard if that is the case, I've noticed the front doors, tweets high up on the front doors, rear doors, tweets/maybe small mids pointing forward off the rear pillars in the back, and then what looks like a small 6" or maybe 8" sub in the lower right of the cargo area. Also maybe one in the front middle of the dash?? noticed a round grill up there similar to a speaker grill but not for certain.

Well now I'm not so sure, unless they have the grills without the speakers actually installed I appear to have grills for mids, tweets, etc in all the locations called out in that diagram?

I have not heard the HK system yet, but what from what you are describing, it sounds like the HK system is being more faithful to the individual recordings. In other words, it might just be more accurate -- which is a good things for SQ folks.

The other possibility is that the system was intentionally tuned to emphasize some frequencies more that others. I hope that it's the former, though, as I much prefer a more accurate sound as the artist intended. In a modern recording, if there isn't a strong low baseline, they probably orchestrated it that way for a reason.

Just check if you have the 10" Sub-woofer in the rear (right side).. Only H/K 19 speakers have that, if I am not wrong.

Re: SRT/Harman Audio - anyone else here unimpressed?

I'm going to agree with the original poster, I am very dissapointed with the system. I have a B&O upgraded system in my Audi, a thousand times better clarity and sound and it was only 500 bucks more that it cost me to upgrade this one. Also like someone else mentioned why the hell do you need 19 speakers, its just over kill so you can say you have lots. Much better to put in fewer speakers but better quality.
Thats just my opinion.

Just have to listen to the engine more I guess

I think you should go get your system checked out... Very Similar to the OP, the discussion was that he had distortion and sound quality issues. I think the consensus was that his system had a serious problem. There were some volume knobs found to have some issues but I have had some very experienced FOH audio techs listen to the system and comment on how good it sounds.

I have compared the Bang & Olufsen in the Audi Q5 (2012) and the guy with the Q5 even said the Jeep System was way better.

No offense but if you don't have crystal clear clarity and super punchy bass, something is not right...

When you say the consensus was his system had serious issues, where exactly are you getting that from? I read through the entire thread and I never read that. Did he take it to he dealer and the dealer told him that? Or by consensus do you mean a bunch of guys who love their stereo chatting on the internet? A number of people apparently think this system is great, and quite a few are also dissapointed, obviously everyone has different standards and probably defines good quality differently.

There is nothing wrong with my system, it is just not as good as I was expecting for a $2000 upgrade. Obviously you are very pleased with the system, which is great, we clearly have different definitions of 'great audio'. To my ears the system is fine, just not great, I have had many cars with much better audio systems, and clearly I'm not the only one who feels this way.

No there were some verified issues with some of the systems. I don't think we ever heard back from the OP on that? There are a few threads here where people complained of "distortion" and found out there was an issue with one of the controls and the distortion is gone.

Re: SRT/Harman Audio - anyone else here unimpressed?

Although I mentioned this in another thread, after finally getting the chance to listen to the HK system, I'm glad I didn't order it with my SRT. One of the great songs that I use as a reference is 'Do It Again' by Steely Dan. There is a lot going on with this song that make a good system bare all plus a good variety of instruments and bits of silence that can expose hiss. Another is Celine Dion's 'Because you loved me' and the french 'Pour Que Tu M'Aimes Encore' but that's another story. Strong female vocals can really expose weak systems.

Anyway, hooked up 'Do It Again' and it sounded very average and a bit out of balance. Highs and mids weren't overly loud and clear like it is on my '09 stock Lexus system. Bass wasn't punchy but it was loud, highs weren't crisp and mids and bass were muddy. Not as muddy as the stock Alpine system mind you. With a almost sneer on her face, my wife asked me if this was the stereo I was getting in my SRT. I told her no and that I'm installing a system myself starting with the JBL MS-8 processor I ordered.

In the end I believe the HK system should come stock with the Overland and SRT with an option for a nicer system at a higher price. Maybe on the '15's they change this.

you lost me completely at Celine Dion

I just have to say after owning this car for over a month, the HK system is epic, the placement of the 19 speakers are very well thought out, the power of the subs, the quality of the sound at high volume, I couldn't be happier, If I have just sold my phantom for an SRT, I probably would be disappointed, but I only owned benz's and audi's my whole life, so ...
