Re: SRT/Harman Audio - anyone else here unimpressed?

So let me get a direct answer from someone. I ordered my car last weekend and I didn't order the H/K cause I've heard its crap. I always do an aftermarket system in all my cars anyway so I figure I just spend the $2k on that. So my first concern was having to disconnect the 10" sub in the back.. So are you guys saying I will not have that sub with the regular sound system? That would be great. I've seen the diagram for the H/K system anyone has the diagram for the sound system without the H/K? Thanks

Re: SRT/Harman Audio - anyone else here unimpressed?

You will get a 8" sub with the stock 'Alpine' system. If you are going to be installing your own system as I am, do some serious research and look into the many threads here and on mobile audio and (300SRT) sites about Line Out Converters and Processors. I purchased the JBL MS-8 which has 8 inputs and outputs and a built in amp. There are other options like the Rockford 3Sixty.3 and Audison Bit One and Bit 10D that you may be interested in. Research the hell out of it because from what I gather, improving the sound can be a pain...and pricey.

I don't plan on doing it myself. Might bring it to Avenue Sound in Freeport NY or Proline in Brooklyn NY. Don't like messing with wires. Am sure they can hook it up really nice for like $2,500 to $3,500.

Same here, ex Benz with the Harmon system and I love the new Harmon system in the Jeep. Sounds great.

Re: SRT/Harman Audio - anyone else here unimpressed?

First Off, I did get the Harman Upgrade. Yes, it doesn't sound great with AM/FM or XM. The sound is really source dependant. However, when you use a better source like a high bit rate recording it does sound pretty good. On my last last MB an S Class. I replaced the speakers with MBQuarts. Yes they sounded good but I ended up having trim issues with the doors after the install. Pissed me off to no end.

Re: SRT/Harman Audio - anyone else here unimpressed?

Isn't the HK system a $2k upgrade? (MSRP)
And everyone here is comparing custom systems that cost upward of $2,500 aftermarket?
Does that make sense to anyone?
You must be forgetting the time its taking you to research the parts to make the $2,500 system if it's even that low, the discount that your getting by finding prices online and the mark up of MSRP is on any factory option.
If you were starting from scratch and building the 2 systems side by side, your costs of the HK system would most likely be in the $1,300 area. And you're comparing this to a custom aftermarket system that could cost over $3,000.

The H/K system is a quality Factory sound system from JEEP.

Re: SRT/Harman Audio - anyone else here unimpressed?

I realize that the sound system may be perfectly fine for some and I envy their happiness with it.

But I don't think you can 'compare' it to a $3,000 system. Keep in mind this is an upgrade. You've already paid for the stock stereo. You don't really have to spend that much to make it better. A lot of that cost is for the processor that you MUST have. Whatever you spend to 'upgrade' it, that's to make it worthy of a car or would expect of in this price range. I'm paying $80K Australian or $76k US for my SRT. I expect much much more from the stock stereo let alone the 'upgrade' and now find myself spending more to get it to a decent level.

Re: SRT/Harman Audio - anyone else here unimpressed?

I still say I couldn't be happier... Had some much better ears than mine listen to it like some of the audio engineers I work with and they were very impressed. Response, accuracy and clarity are all words used by them.

Sure, you can dump a pile into the system and get more, but net worth on the upgrade price, the people's opinions I have gotten is that it was an amazing value at the price.

So I finally picked up my srt on tues. I didn't upgrade to the audio sound but am actually impressed with the regular sound system so I might of liked the upgrade.. But since I didn't I will be adding two 10" JL's

Re: SRT/Harman Audio - anyone else here unimpressed?

Awesome. Welcome to the SRT Family. I know you'll enjoy the heck out of it. Just watch those speeds even when just passing. This thing has some serious power and comes quickly.

As far as the H/K system; I ended up getting the H/K system with my SRT after cancelling the original contract for a Granite SRT that I ordered without the H/K. After two and some weeks, I'm actually quite happy with it. It's a good mix of SQ and SPL with emphasis toward SPL. I keep it in Surround mode on, center position (sometimes upper passenger) and keep my EQ set at Lows:3 to 4, mids:0 highs:0

Sometimes the highs can be quite shrill and bright but at other time damn good. Depends on the music. There is some gap between mid and lows that I think I might be able to correct with either better 3.5" midrange speakers or by replacing the 6x9 'subs' with 6.5's though this will probably force me to do something about the 10' subwoofer in the back.

It's better than my first impression session with it. I can imagine that replacing the speakers will make it even better.

BTW: Does anyone want to buy a brand spanking new JBL MS-8 processor at cost plus shipping? Bought it when I thought I was going to have the base Infinity system so don't need it anymore. PM me for details.

Re: SRT/Harman Audio - anyone else here unimpressed?

Our 2014 dcr srt arrived a couple of days ago.Have been listening to the Harmon Kardon and am really impressed with CD. Terrific sound, great clarity with truck shaking bass.So 10/10 for cd (digital) reproduction.
Radio however is way inferior and I can just tolerate most fm channels.Streaming youtube via blutooth sounds quite good too, better than radio.
